数据科学与分析(DSA)学域侧重于研究统一统计、机器学习、数据优化及其相关技术。通过分析数据和数据建模,我们希望将数据分析结果转化为工业和商业洞察,以便做出更有效的决策。我们希望应聘者具有能够在数据科学与分析领域做出高影响力研究的能力。DSA学域目前的重点领域包括但不限于数据驱动的人工智能和机器学习、统计学习和建模、工业和商业分析(运营相关的数据分析、商业智能和战略等)、特定领域的数据分析(医疗保健、金融、保险、市场、制造、运输等领域)。

Biography:

TSUNG Fugee is a Chair Professor at HKUST and the Acting Dean of the Information Hub at HKUST(GZ). He received both his PhD and MSc in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prof. Tsung is also the Director of the Quality and Data Analytics Lab, and former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Quality Technology (JQT). Based on his pioneering contribution to Quality Analytics research and education, he has been elected Academician of the International Academy for Quality (IAQ), Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), Fellow of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). His research interests include industrial big data and quality analytics. He has authored over 170 refereed journal publications and received IISE Transactions' Best Paper Award three times, in 2004, 2009, and 2018, respectively.


CHEN Lei 陈雷

Biography:

CHEN Lei is a Chair Professor at HKUST and the Acting Head of the Data Science and Analytics Thrust. He received his BS degree in Computer Science at Tian Jin University ,P.R.China(BS 94), and an MA degree in computer science at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Asian Institute of Technology (MS 97). He received a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at University of Waterloo. Lei Chen is an IEEE Fellow and ACM Distinguished Scientist.

Biography:

TSANG Hin Kwok Danny received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A., in 1989. Upon graduation, he joined the Department of Computer Science at Dalhousie University in Canada. He later joined the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1992 and is now a professor in the department. He was a Guest Editor for IEEE Journal of Selected Areas in Communications’ special issue on Advances in P2P Streaming Systems, an Associate Editor for Journal of Optical Networking published by the Optical Society of America, and a Guest Editor for IEEE Systems Journal. He currently serves as Technical Editor for IEEE Communications Magazine. He was nominated to become an IEEE Fellow in 2012 and an HKIE Fellow in 2013. During his leave from HKUST in 2000-2001, Dr. Tsang assumed the role of Principal Architect at Sycamore Networks in the United States. He was responsible for the network architecture design of Ethernet MAN/WAN over SONET/DWDM networks. He invented the 64B/65B encoding (US Patent No.: US 6,952,405 B2) and contributed it to the proposal for Transparent GFP in the T1X1.5 standard that was advanced to become the ITU G.GFP standard. The coding scheme has now been adopted by International Telecommunication Union (ITU)’s Generic Framing Procedure recommendation GFP-T (ITU-T G.7041/Y.1303)) and Interfaces for the Optical Transport Network (ITU-T G.709). His current research interests include cloud computing, edge computing, NOMA networks, mmWave communications and smart grids.

Biography:

QU Huamin is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and also the director of the interdisciplinary program office (IPO) of HKUST. He obtained a BS in Mathematics from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, an MS and a PhD in Computer Science from the Stony Brook University. He is the director of the VisLab and also serves as the coordinator of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) group at the CSE department. His main research interests are in visualization and human-computer interaction, with focuses on urban informatics, social network analysis, E-learning, text visualization, and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). He has co-authored about 200 refereed papers and more than 50 papers are published in the IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG), making him one of the most productive researchers in this journal. He is currently an associate editor of Computer Graphics Forum (CGF), and was an associate editor of IEEE TVCG, a paper co-chair for IEEE VIS’14, VIS’15 and VIS’18, a program co-chair for IEEE PacificVis’11 and IEEE PacificVis’12, a conference co-chair for VINCI’11 and VINCI’12, and a program vice chair for ChinaGraph 2014.


XIONG Hui 熊辉

XIONG Hui is currently the Head and Chair Professor of the Artificial Intelligece Thrust at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou).Prof. Xiong’s main research areas are data mining, business intelligence, mobile computing, and big data of human resources. He has obtained AAAS Fellow, IEEE Fellow, ACM Distinguished Scientist, Changjiang Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education of China, Overseas Jieqing B (Collaborative Research Fund for Overseas, Hong Kong and Macau Scholars) of the National Science Foundation of China, Harvard Business Review’s “2018 Ram Charan Award for Management Practices”-- Full Prize, 2017 IEEE ICDM Outstanding Service Award, ICDM-2011 Best Research Paper Award,and AAAI-2021 Best Paper Award. In terms of talent cultivation, most of the PhD supervised by Prof. Xiong have become tenure-track professors at prestigious universities in United States, including University of Tennessee-Knoxville, University of Arizona, Stony Brook University, University of Central Florida, George Mason University, City University of Hong Kong, University of Kansas and ESCP Business School-Paris.

Biography:

ZHOU Xiaofang is Otto Poon Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at HKUST. From 2006 to 2020, he was a Professor of Computer Science at The University of Queensland, Head of Data and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) research group, and Leader of Data Science Discipline. Under his leadership, UQ DKE/Data Science discipline received 5 out of 5 ranking in the Australian Research Council's research quality assessment for three consecutive rounds (ERA 2012, 2015, 2018). Before joining UQ in 1999, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist in the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), leading its Spatial Information Systems group. Xiaofang received his BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science from Nanjing University in 1984 and 1987 respectively, and PhD in Computer Science from UQ in 1994. He is a Fellow of IEEE.


CHU Xiaowen 褚晓文

Biography:

CHU Xiaowen received his B.Eng. degree in the Computer Science from Tsinghua University, Beijing, P. R. China, in 1999, and the Ph.D. degree in the Computer Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2003. He is a full  profeesor in the Data Science and Analytics Thrust, Information Hub in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou).He was a professor in the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University. He was serving as the Director of the High Performance Cluster Computing Centre of HKBU, the Director of Blockchain and Fintech Laboratory, and the Director of High Performance Machine Learning Laboratory. He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of ACM. He is a vice-chairman of the Blockchain Technical Committee of China Institute of Communications.

His current research interests include GPU Computing, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Cloud Computing, and Wireless Networks. He is especially interested in the modelling, parallel algorithm design, application optimization, and energy efficiency of GPU computing.


WANG Wei 王炜

Biography:

WANG Wei is currently a Professor in the Information Hub, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), and he is also an affiliated Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST. Previously, He was a Redbird Visiting Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST, and a Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, University of New South Wales, Australia. He has published over 100 research papers in these areas, with a majority of them in prestigious international journal (ACM TODS, VLDB Journal, IEEE TKDE) and conferences (SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, WWW, SIGIR, IJCAI, AAAI, ACL).


HUI Pan 许彬

Biography:

HUI Pan is a Professor of Computational Media and Arts and Director of the HKUST-DT Systems and Media Lab at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He is also the Nokia Chair in Data Science at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Professor Hui received his PhD from the Computer Laboratory at University of Cambridge, and both his Bachelor and MPhil degrees from the University of Hong Kong. He was an adjunct Professor of social computing and networking at Aalto University, Finland, and a Distinguished Scientist at the Deutsche Telekom Laboratories (T-labs), Germany. His industrial profile also includes his research at Intel Research Cambridge, UK and Thomson Research Paris, France. Professor Hui is a world-leading expert in Augmented Reality and Mobile Computing, with more than 400 research papers, 30 patents, and over 20,000 citations. He is an International Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a member of Academia Europaea, an IEEE Fellow, and an ACM Distinguished Scientist.
