Friendly Reminder: China’s Regulations on Preventing and Disposing of Illegal Fundraising by PRC State Council came into effect on May 1, 2021. Under this new regulation, illegal and fraudulent fundraising activities will be subject to administrative and criminal penalties. We have been advised by PRC counsel that the new regulation does not specifically target blockchain or cryptocurrency (or IPFS / Filecoin). However, we want to remind the Filecoin community to be cautious of any fraudulent or illegal fundraising that may impermissibly misuse the IPFS or Filecoin logos or trademarks. We do not endorse or support any such illegal activities. Filecoin is an open-source decentralized storage network designed to store humanity’s most important information. We will always endeavor to be in full compliance with regulatory requirements to promote the healthy development of the Filecoin ecosystem.
