Personal Philosophy Story 个人初涉哲学故事If you read My Husband-to-be (Part II), you know the cowboy I’m talking about. One evening, he was complaining about his life in China. And he hated the crab that I had eaten. He wouldn’t kiss me that night. We had a fight. I didn’t know how to argue with him. My listening was worse than my English. Somehow I burst out a poem Butterfly. He asked furiously, “What are you talking about?” He smashed his fist into the chair, the desk, the TV and the wall. “These things are dead. Not philosophy! Not you!”如果你看了我的《未来老公》第二部分，你知道我在讲那个美国牛仔。一天晚上，他直抱怨他的中国生活。他讨厌我吃螃蟹。那晚他死都不亲我。我们吵了一架。但我不知道怎么和他争论。我的听力比我的英语还糟糕。莫名其妙，我迸发出了一首诗叫《蝴蝶》。他一拳猛击椅子、桌子、电视和墙，愤怒地吼着：“你在说什么？这些东西是死的。但哲学没死！你也没死!"That was the first time anyone has mentioned about philosophy in my life. He talked a lot. But I cannot remember anything but that line. What is philosophy? I had no idea till Marcus Aurelius explained something to me in The Meditations. Life can be very simple. One mind, two legs, one heart, two hands.这是我生命中第一次有人跟我提哲学。他劈里啪啦说了一大堆。但除了那句我什么都记不住更无从理解。什么是哲学？我不懂，直到马可·奥勒留的《沉思录》向我解释了一些东西。生活可以很简单。一个脑，两条腿，一颗心，两只手。
Before I share my idea, take a good look at your surroundings. Are you aware of the moment? Are you conscious about your life? Are you feeling alive?在分享我的想法之前，大家好好感受下周围的环境。 你有注意到这一刻吗？你有意识到你当下的生活吗？你感觉还活着吗？Then take a closer look at the historic people on the walls. Look into their eyes. Read their words if you can. Do you see them in the past or in the present? Do you feel they are dead or alive? Do you understand why they are here with us? Are they listening to us? Are they watching us? We can never hear them talking. But what about their knowledge? Their wisdom? Their soul? These are the best things that we can learn. We can even learn to be them, to be wise. We can also create our own philosophy, our own life, our own history, like being part of the Cafe Philo China as we are now. Maybe 20, 30, 50 or 100 years later, there would be a picture of you with your quote hanging on a wall exactly like that. Back in our remote village, when there was no road till in the 90s and almost no cash flows, every family was self-efficient rice farmer. We helped each other, all by hands. 回到我们偏远的小山村，当90年代没有路，也几乎没有钞票时，家家户户都是自给自足的稻农，都是手工互相帮助。When the road was open, the outsiders came with a machine for us to cut trees, blend logs into powder, grow mushrooms, for years till there was no more trees left, floods ruined the land, meanwhile, they brought gambling, men turned into gamblers, lost money and interest in ploughing land, that was when women and girls started shifting the family position, they became important, because they were transported to the city for "massage", and quick flows of cash began to make men go out and do business like running supermarket or restaurant.当有了路，外来者带着机器来砍树，把原木磨成粉，种蘑菇。多年后树被砍完了，洪水来了，土地被淹了。同时，他们还带来了赌博，男人变成赌徒，输了钱，丢了耕地的兴趣。那正是妇女的家庭地位开始发生转变的时候，她们变得重要。因为她们被送到城市做“按摩”，很快让男人有资本可以进城做生意，比如经营超市或餐馆。 At that point, knowledge was realized to be vitally necessary. So we believed the only way to rid of poverty was go to college, learn knowledge and develop skills.在这点上，知识被意识到是至关重要的。因此，我们认为脱穷唯一途径是上大学，学习知识和发展技能。
I was the first one graduated from college in our village, and yet the poorest. In this case, which one is more important, knowledge or money? It is the same question as chicken or egg, which comes first? For me, it is more of the matter of social circumstances.这样看来，知识和金钱，哪个更重要？好比如鸡和鸡蛋，哪个先来？对我而言，更像是社会环境问题。Were we unhappy when we had no money in the village?Are we happier in the city with a flat and a car?The day passed fully after farming.The time goes by wondering what else could be filled with after work. Time. Space. Memory. Desire. Constant search and greed. So personally, our wisdom or our wise choice matters, when we come to decide what we want, knowledge or money. 因此，个人而言，当我们决定想要知识还是金钱时，我们的智慧或明智的选择很重要。

Café Philo History | 咖啡哲学历史
Café Philo was founded by modern-day philosopher Marc Sautet, who started the idea of philosophy cafés at the now famous Café des Phares in Paris on December 13th, 1992. It is an international network for people who are interested in philosophical issues. The purpose was to stimulate real dialogue about the larger questions of life. The idea was to bring people together to a friendly and soulful community full of love and wisdom - much the same as did Socrates in his time. This is done in an informal setting for people wishing to share and learn from and with others.
