WHO can be artist, painter, writer, poet, editor, publisher, philosopher, photographer, designer, architect, scientist, filmmaker, musician, art collector, art dealer, antique dealer, founder of an art platform, a distinctive "qi pa", a grassroot off mainstreams, a daring storyteller, a soul catcher, or a street performer with a voice rumbling like the sea of storms.

Foreword 前言


Keith Hallsuch a talented artist and quite a traditional Londoner. He mailed me a nicely signed copy of THE WHO Agreement in an efficient way. Before having met him, I was deeply impressed by the unique style of his work Landscape with Incoherence, which took me to many dream places. After having met him, I immediately had a crush on his incredible humor and wit. And when talking to him in person, I felt that the process of his creating arts is as important as his artworks. Although struggling with light-sensitivity and dyslexia, Keith would usually condense his inner thoughts and write down his feelings while letting his painting dry for two or three hours. He often creates multiple paintings at the same time. His style-building constantly changes or innovates with half experiment half knowledge. However, he always likes highlighting a raised textured surface that is stressed yet unwavering - a hope in desolation, a birth from seclusion. And unintentionally he paints with the flows of his subconsciousness and without the limit of any frames, just like Edward's face was visible in the painting after a few months had passed.

Keith Hall graduated from Goldsmiths University of London, a creative powerhouse with two centuries of educational legacy. Later he moved to South Korea for five years and returned to London for eighteen months. He then spent a year in Beijing only to find his way to Shanghai. He has now lived in this Magic City for four years. As a visual artist who draws from his life, he likes painting a new collection each year. He has work published in Vienna’s ARTBEAT magazine as well as featured work on Britart.com and Saatchi & Saatchi. He was invited by Elevate in January 2020 to give an artist talk and this May, had an exhibition Piercing The Veil at Shanghai Sino Art Space with Maxime Drouet. They are working on a new exhibition that will come out in the spring of 2021.


基思·霍尔:2004年,毕业于伦敦戈德史密斯大学。之后移居韩国五年,再回到伦敦十八个月。接着在北京呆了一年,便搬到了上海,一住就是四年。作为一名从生活、环境和思想中汲取灵感的视觉艺术家,他喜欢每年都画一个新的系列作品。他的画作有被维也纳的ARTBEAT杂志出版,Britart.com和Saatchi & Saatchi线上展出。其中《不变的流浪者》于去年11月被上海文评杂志发表。今年1月,他受邀阿黎微忑举办的艺术家座谈。今年5月,他与马克西姆·杜洛埃在上海华人美术馆成功举办了一个“揭开面纱”的双人展。目前,他俩正在努力筹备明年的春展

Keith's work is based on the philosophy of Yin and Yang - the duality of life and the attraction of opposites. For him, drawing is thinking and painting is feeling. Greatly influenced by the Buddhist culture, some of his paintings bring a real sense of calm - layer upon layer of chaos with tonal depth draw you into the imaginative void of intricate landscape or cityscape. He expresses his reflective feelings and thoughts of the present with the complexity of woven gossamer threads, brushstrokes, textures and colours. His work contains great strength of bold lines, almost barbaric. Translucent fey wisps or tendrils of paint gleam with specs of gold and silver leaves. Bleeding acrylic and latex-washed areas create uncompromising and cruel space with shards of brilliant colour that enliven the atmospheric calm. Moth eaten flakes peeled away, reveal a volcanic tirade from dark cold blue to virulent molten oranges; they burn the eye if you stare too long. This may turn you acutely into unease and fear, allowing you to walk away feeling unsettled and thought-provoked. Keith says, "Every painting is individual and unique. Every painting is a part of me.“
