A Dong village of thousands years history

Dong Village has maintained their own development law that has been continued for centuries. As a living fossil of ethnic minorities and of traditional settlement cultures, it possess outstanding cultural values. The iconic drum tower is an important hub for community gatherings and festivities. It played positive social role connecting with traditional lifestyle. 

While walk in the Dong village, you would always find rows of wooden stands which are called “Heliang”, used to dry the grain.

Near the village are usually paddy fields, with fish and duck kept in water and featuring the harmonious co-existence. a perfect integration of humanity and nature, and they reflect the Dong peoples’ principle of adapting themselves to nature for survival and development.

The intangible cultural heritage of Southeast Guizhou is also remarkable and unique. The “Grand Song” of Dong Nationality has been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.  The herb bath traditions, wind musical instrument, costumes, weaving skills, etc. have all been well preserved. 

Try something you will find in no other places

We would go paddy field and catch fish with locals, and barbeque (not the young fish)  on the spot, explaining how rice-fish-duck eco-system works out in southeast Guizhou.

Go herb hunting with village head, identify among the wild what is good for your body, and get to know some really mythical usage.

Soaked in hot herbal tub by herbs, which is one of the top 3 bathing cultures worldwide, nice and clean. Your circulation and whole body will be totally refreshed.

Making a piece of paper by yourself, perfect for calligraphy practicing. The unique way is that they still use tree bark as the original material for pursuit of purity.

The artisans of Dong village are famous for their crafts. Local women create distinctive outfits and indigo-dyed textiles using techniques passed from mother to daughter for generations. Find out the special procedure of making and weaving cloth, knowing the design and aesthetic philosophy. 

Following traditional way of making sticky rice and rice wine, that's part of your lunch. 

Try your hand on one of the three main print crafts in ancient China. Using beeswax to create various patterns. Making your own piece of Batik on scarves, T-shirts and bags.

Day 2  Dong Village
