Following Monk to A Mythical Cave  

Guided by a monk in this region, we will explore a cave living buhhda once lived, and the tunnel is said to connect to Lhasa Tibet at the other end. It is still worshipped today as holy place with mythical healing power. What makes this cave more attractive, researchers proposed that Homo sapiens took shelter in the cave 100,000 years. The finding further extends the period that Homo sapiens occupied the cave and provides evidence that they had a long-term presence on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.




Heart of Amdo Tibetan Culture

Labrang is one of the “Great Six” Gelukpa sect monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism. Established in 1709, it housed over 4000 monks at its peak, but now only has around 1500 monks. Thousands of prayer wheels that surround the monastery are continuously spun by pilgrims hoping for rewards in the next life. You also have chance to see learning institutes, and massive collection of Buddha statues, murals, and religious artifacts on display.




Octagonal City of Long History 

It has long been strategic military spot since ancient times, and still in good shape where you could see the general layout of the city and the wall surrounding it. It was a flourishing town in Tang and Song dynasties,  coins, copper ox, tiles have been excavated from this site. And local people still live here for generations.




Thousand Buddha Caves

Thousand Buddha Caves, can only be reached by boat. Only few travelers venture out to explore it. Altogether there are over 200 cave niches with Buddhist frescoes, carvings and stone or clay sculptures dating back to 420AD. And each alcove is like a miniature temple filled with Buddhist imagery.




Eastern Little Mecca 

This town has always been a link between western and central China since the founding of administrative divisions during the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC). It was a vital passage in the ancient Silk Road, Tang-Tibet and Gansu-Sichuan ancient roads, and was praised as the 'dock on land in West China'. Here developed 3 different schools of Islam in China, and with most of its Muslim residents , so called "Little Mecca".
