好消息!启明星学校高中部新近获得国际文凭组织大学预科项目 (DP) 授权。DP项目面向 11 年级和 12 年级的学生,是国际文凭组织项目(IB) 的最后阶段。获得DP授权意味着启明星已经获得国际文凭组织 (IBO) 的完整授权,能够提供从 1 年级至 12 年级的连续项目。

社会创新 (SI) 项目是启明星的特色项目。SI 项目和 IB 项目之间是什么关系?
社会创新项目反映着启明星正在践行自己的使命——我们正在培育社会创新者,创新者的特质驱动着他们主动辨识身边社区中的问题,并努力做出积极的改变。启明星的社会创新项目是对教育学生如何学习的 IB 学习方法的补充,同时培养学生成为社会创新者所需的特质和技能。
7年级学生在北京皮村实施的社区服务项目
社会创新项目框架培养的正是当代研究所鼓励的素养,比如情商(包括同理心、韧性和勇气)、独创力(包括毅力、决断力和创造性地解决问题的能力)以及驱动力。具备这些素养的人往往心怀伟大梦想,希望能够影响他人并带来变革。
IB 项目强调真实的和体验式的学习(将所学应用于真实的场景中),而社会创新项目也是如此。它的能力框架培养学生诸如共情倾听、公开演讲和社交能力等技能,支持学生们与社区建立联系,分析面对的挑战,讲述自己的故事,建立互信关系,以期协作解决问题。
世界面临的挑战,诸如饥饿、教育机会不均、贫困等,是复杂多样的。要解决这些挑战,我们必须理解这些问题不断产生的系统性原因。DP 项目中的第 4学科组(科学)强调问题具有多学科性质,因此需要通过跨学科的合作来解决。社会创新项目延续了同样的学习方式,鼓励学生不仅在科学范围内思考力量的相互作用,同时也要关注经济、社会和政治体系等各个层面。建构改变方向的体系、加强设计思维过程、关注解决实际问题的方案的可持续性,以上这些方面将我们的学生从简单的实际操练提升到另一个层面,即考虑自己的行动和解决方案对所服务的社区会产生什么样的影响。

Good news! Daystar's high school just received full authorization for the IB Diploma Programme (DP). The DP is the final stage of the IB program and is offered to our Grade 11 and 12 students. This means that Daystar is fully authorized by the IBO to offer its programmes from grade 1 to grade 12.
What does Daystar’s IBDP authorization mean for the school and its community? What is the relationship between Daystar’s Social Innovation Program and the IBDP framework? How experienced is our high school teaching faculty? We interviewed Jessica Heyman, Daystar’s Director of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (TLI), to pursue answers to these important questions:

The IB Diploma Programme is regarded by many as one of the most demanding university prep programs in the world. Achieving IB DP Authorization is a tremendous accomplishment and reflects Daystar Academy's commitment to delivering a rigorous, student-centered, and inclusive K-12 educational program.
Daystar Academy joins an elite group of schools within China that offer the full IB Continuum – PYP to MYP to DP. We are one of only 40 schools within China to offer a the full IB continuum and one of only 7 in Beijing.
Daystar Academy graduates now have the opportunity to earn the prestigious IB Diploma that qualifies them for admission to universities around the world.

The Social Innovation (SI) Program is Daystar’s signature program. How does the SI program connect to the IB Diploma program?
The Social Innovation Program reflects our mission in practice - we are cultivating social innovators whose character motivates them to identify issues in their community and affect positive change. Complementing the IB Programmes' Approaches to Learning Skills that support students in learning how to learn, Daystar's Social Innovation Competencies build the attributes and skills that students need to be social innovators.

This framework reflects contemporary research that emphasizes developing attributes such as emotional intelligence, including empathy, resilience, and courage; ingenuity, including perseverance, determination, and creative problem-solving; and drive, which matches personal passion with a larger purpose to inspire others and create change.
IB Programs emphasize authentic and experiential learning (i.e., applying learning to real-world situations) and the Social Innovation Program uses this same approach. The SI Competencies Framework develops skills such as empathetic listening, social storytelling, and social intelligence that will support students in connecting with communities, identifying their challenges, telling their stories, and building the trusting relationships needed to collaboratively problem solve.
The world's challenges are complex and understanding the systems that perpetuate these (e.g., hunger, educational access, poverty) is necessary to solve them. The DP Group 4 Science Project emphasizes the multidisciplinary nature of issues that are addressed through collaboration across science disciplines. The Social Innovation Program extends this learning by challenging students to consider the intersecting forces within not only the sciences but also across economic, social, and political systems. Developing a systems change orientation, strengthening design thinking processes, and focusing on the sustainability of real-world solutions extends our students from simply doing to considering the impacts of their actions and solutions on the communities they serve.
How experienced and supportive is our high school teaching faculty?
Daystar Academy has highly experienced DP teachers. Four of our DP teachers are experienced examiners across a variety of DP subjects, including Mathematics, Sciences, English, and Social Sciences.
We also have a highly experienced university counselor with dedicated one-on-one, small group, and whole class time allocated to support our students in meeting their university admissions goals.
Furthermore, the Social Innovation Program develops the type of students that highly selective universities look for - those who demonstrate a passion for affecting positive change in their communities.
Through social innovation projects that build upon the knowledge and skills emphasized in the IB Diploma Program and as an authorizated IB World School from PYP to DP, our dedicated and talented teaching faculty prepare our students to achieve academic excellence in an environment where learning does not simply aim to improve one’s personal life but also aims to improve the communities in which we live!
