新教师,社区里的新身影!
新学年就要开始了,校园里的一切都已准备就绪,只等孩子们回来了!
在北皋校区和三里屯校区,校园都做了翻新或更优规划,老师们也按照惯例参加了系统的开学前培训。
今年,因应教学需要和学校规模扩大,启明星的教师队伍又注入“新血”。现在,就随我们了解一下管理和教学团队的部分新成员吧:
管理团队
Jonah Olken-Dann
中学副校长兼DP协调员
🔹来自美国,拥有乔治华盛顿大学学士学位、哈佛大学教育学硕士学位,在北京大学完成中文学习;
🔹涵盖小学到高中的12年教学及管理经验;
🔹拥有丰富的课程设计、职业发展和学校管理经验。
Nicolette Lau
MYP协调员
🔹来自马来西亚,拥有伯明翰大学多媒体技术专业荣誉学士学位、诺丁汉大学硕士学位、PGCEi教育学研究生证书;
🔹9年在国际学校和IB学校的工作经验,担任过教学组长、MYP协调员、项目协调员、ICT协调员和MYP/DP老师;
🔹IB教育者网络(IBEN)的活跃成员,目前也担任IB工作坊导师、IB考官、建立质量课程(BQC)评审员、苹果专业培训专家。
陈孟蕾(Tracie Chen)
北皋校区小学部副校长
🔹天津外国语学院英语文学学士、英国哈德斯菲尔德大学教育学学士学位,正在攻读英国巴斯大学教育管理硕士学位;
🔹从事教育工作近30年,其中24年在北京京西学校任教;中国大陆最早的PYP培训官之一、IBPYP 顾问、授权访问团团长和复审官;
🔹曾与亚太地区30多所学校合作,为教学人员提供培训和咨询,曾多次受IB课程研发总部邀请,赴荷兰海牙为幼儿园以及小学阶段课程提供课程更新的经验和理论支持。
马凤仙(Catherine Ma)
北皋校区小学部PYP 协调员
🔹山西大学英语专业硕士学位, IB 亚太地区官方认证 PYP 培训官、IBPYP 学校授权访问官和年检官;
🔹13年IBPYP 教学和管理经验,丰富的 IBPYP 培训和课程开发经验,在原来任职的学校全面负责小学部教师培训工作,专注于IB课程框架与本土课程的融合和实施。
Temily Tianmay Tavangar
社会创新副总监
🔹来自马拉西亚,拥有香港大学新闻学学士学位、香港大学文化与社会人类学博士学位,曾在香港大学任职;
🔹Tavangar女士关注社会公平和社会创新,拥有帮助教育机构将使命与实践活动结合落实的丰富经验。

Matthew Alessi-Friedlander
中学英文老师兼英文人文学科负责人
🔹来自美国,纽约大学中学社会学教育硕士学位、纽约州立大学杰纳苏分校历史学学士学位;
🔹13年教学经验,先后在美国和北京的多所学校工作;
🔹担任过指导老师和橄榄球教练,拥有丰富的和中学生相处的经验。
潘铭霏(Tracy Pan)
中学中文老师兼中文学科副负责人
🔹来自北京,拥有首都师范大学学士学位、香港大学中文教学专业硕士学位;
🔹拥有15年教学经验,先后在北京英国学校、北京德威国际学校、新加坡克信女中等学校工作。
林玲(Ling Lin)
中学科学老师
🔹来自北京,毕业于北京师范大学并获得物理化学博士学位,比利时鲁汶大学化学系进修博士后研究;
🔹长达13年的普通化学、DP化学和AP化学的教学经验;
🔹在国内外期刊发表多篇学术论文。
Lorenzo Liang
中学数学老师
🔹成长于北京和多伦多,拥有多伦多大学应用科学专业的学士学位、美国莫兰大学教育学硕士学位、美国教师资格证书;
🔹11年教学经验,曾在北京市第八十中学担任数学老师;
🔹曾担任美国数学测评(AMC)和澳大利亚数学测评教练,并获得杰出教练称号。
Joanna Johami
北皋校区小学部英文教学指导兼读写老师
🔹来自马来西亚,英国埃克塞特大学教育学荣誉学士学位、哈佛商学院和哈佛教育学院学校管理与领导证书;
🔹22年工作经验,曾在马来西亚、香港、泰国、荷兰、中东等地学校工作;
🔹担任过IBPYP教师、课程协调员、管理人员,在英文教学和IBPYP领域经验尤其丰富。
Jessie A. L. Edmonds
北皋校区小学戏剧老师
🔹来自美国,美国查尔斯顿学院人文学科和社会科学学院戏剧表演学士学位、宗教学学士学位;
🔹约9年小学和中学戏剧课教学经验;
🔹除课堂教学之外,也拥有课程开发、戏剧技术、导演的丰富经验。
The new school year is about to start. Everything is ready on campus. We’re just waiting for our students to return!
Both the Beigao Campus and Sanlitun Campus have undergone renovations or optimized their school building plans. The teachers also participated in training sessions as usual.
We are extremely pleased that in response to the subject construction and expansion of the school, “new blood” has been injected into Daystar’s education team. Let’s take a closer look at some members of the new team:
Management Team
Jonah Olken-Dann
Secondary School Vice Principal & DP Coordinator
🔹Mr. Olken-Dann is from the United States, with a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and a master’s degree in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, completed his Chinese studies at Peking University;
🔹12 years of teaching experience covering elementary school through high school;
🔹Extensive experience as a curriculum designer, professional development leader, and school administrator.
Nicolette Lau
MYP Coordinator
🔹Ms. Lau is from Malaysia, with a bachelor’s degree with honors in Multimedia Technology from the University of Birmingham, as well as a PGCEi and master’s degree in Education from the University of Nottingham;
🔹Over 9 years of experience in international and bilingual IB schools, held various roles, including Head of Teaching and Learning, MYP Coordinator, Projects Coordinator, Teacher Librarian, ICT Coordinator, and MYP/DP teacher;
🔹Active member of IBEN and currently serves as an IB Workshop Leader, Examiner, BQC Reviewer, and Apple Professional Learning Specialist.
Tracie Chen
Elementary School Vice Principal, Beigao Campus
🔹Ms. Chen holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in English Literature from the school now known as Tianjin Foreign Studies University and one in Education from the University of Huddersfield in the United Kingdom. She is currently studying master’s degree in Education Management through the University of Bath.
🔹Almost 30 years work experience in education, 24 of which were at the Western Academy of Beijing. She was one of the first PYP Workshop Leaders in China and also an IB PYP Consultant, Authorization Team Leader, and Review Programme Officer.
🔹Worked with more than 30 schools in the Asia Pacific region to provide teaching staffs with training and consulting services. She has also been invited by the IB curriculum center to go to Holland to participate in several curriculum review projects.
Catherine Ma
PYP Coordinator, Beigao Campus
🔹Ms. Ma holds a master’s degree in English from Shanxi University. She is an IB PYP Workshop Leader, a School Visit Team Member, and a School Visit Team Leader.
🔹Over 13 years of experience in IB PYP teaching and management, with extensive experience in IB PYP training and curriculum development as well. She was responsible for the training of elementary school teachers at her previous school and led teachers of various subjects in integrating IB curriculum with Chinese curriculum.
Temily Tavangar
Deputy Director of Social Innovation
🔹Ms. Tavangar is from Malaysia and has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Hong Kong and a Ph.D. in Cultural and Social Anthropology. She used to work at the University of Hong Kong;
🔹Ms. Tavangar focuses on social equity and social innovation and has accumulated rich experience while helping educational institutions integrate their mission with practical activities.
Teaching Team
Matthew Alessi-Friedlander
Secondary School English Teacher & Head of English Humanities
🔹Mr. Alessi-Friedlander holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and a master’s degree in Education, specializing in secondary school social studies, from New York University;
🔹13 years of experience teaching at multiple schools, including the schools in the United States and in Beijing;
🔹Mr. Alessi-Friedlander has also served as a mentor and rugby coach and has rich experience working with secondary school students.
Tracy Pan
Secondary School Chinese Teacher & Deputy Head of Chinese
🔹Ms. Pan is from Beijing. She has a bachelor’s degree from Capital Normal University in Beijing and a master’s degree in Chinese Language Teaching from the University of Hong Kong;
🔹Ms. Pan has 15 years of teaching experience in international schools, including the British School of Beijing, Dulwich College Beijing, and Crescent Girls’ School in Singapore.
Ling Lin
Secondary School Science Teacher
🔹Ms. Lin is from Beijing. She holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Beijing Normal University. She conducted post-doctoral research in the Department of Chemistry at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium;
🔹13 years of teaching experience in general chemistry, DP chemistry, and AP chemistry;
🔹Published multiple papers in domestic journals and abroad.
Lorenzo Liang
Secondary School Mathematics Teacher
🔹Mr. Liang was born in Beijing and grew up in Beijing and Toronto. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Science from the University of Toronto and a master’s degree in Education from Moreland University in the United States. He is a certified teacher in the United States;
🔹11 years of teaching experience and taught mathematics at Beijing No. 80 High School;
🔹Worked as a coach for the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) and the Australian Mathematics Competition and has been recognized as an outstanding coach.
Joanna Johami
English Instructional Coach/Literacy Specialist, Beigao Campus
🔹Ms. Johami is from Malaysia and holds a bachelors degree in Education (with honors) from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom and has received Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard Business School and Harvard School of Education;
🔹23 years of experience and has worked in schools in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, the Netherlands, the Middle East, and other countries;
🔹 IBPYP teacher, curriculum coordinator, and administrator rich with experience in English learning & teaching and the IBPYP field.
Jessie A. L. Edmonds
Elementary School Drama Teacher, Beigao Campus
🔹Ms. Edmonds is from United States and holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Performance and a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from the College of Charleston School of Humanities and Social Sciences;
🔹Around 9 years of experience teaching drama classes in elementary and secondary schools;
🔹In addition to classroom teaching, Ms. Edmonds also has extensive experience in curriculum development, technical theatre, and directing.
