2023 WIC Wuzhen Summit set for November
The 2023 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit will be held from Nov 8 to 10 in Wuzhen, East China's Zhejiang province. Themed on "Creating an Inclusive and Resilient Digital World Beneficial to All - Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace", the summit will invite representatives worldwide to seek cooperation and win-win results and to promote the building of a fair, open, and safe cyberspace.

GII shows China has most S&T clusters
According to the ranking of science and technology (S&T) clusters from the 2023 edition of Global Innovative Index released on the official website of the World Intellectual Property Organization, all of the world’s five biggest clusters are now located in East Asia, and China possesses the greatest number of clusters.
NASA to study UFO with AI
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration stated that it would start to study unidentified flying objects with artificial intelligence (AI) and public reports, to better understand the phenomenon that has obsessed the public for decades, according to the website of the Wall Street Journal.
Bug-sized robots able to carry objects 22 times its weight
Scientists from Cornell University have developed a kind of bug-sized robot that is powered by combustion, able to crawl and leap, and carry objects 22 times its weight. This kind of small-sized, light-weight, and high-intensity robot, which can move across a large area, is expected to be used in rescue or environment detection in the future.
AI tool able to predict harmful gene mutation
UK’s DeepMind company has detected 71 million possible missense mutations in 20,000 human proteins with its AI tool AlphaMissense. The tool is able to help doctors identify the culprit of genetic diseases by finding which small mutations could be destructive. Relevant thesis is published in the latest edition of Science journal.
AlphaMissense is able to detect whether the mutations will influence protein functions such as hemoglobin (left) or cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulatory factor (right).

Musk plans to charge fees from all X users
Elon Musk recently said on social media that the X (former Twitter) platform should charge a small sum of money from its users every month to solve the problems of robot users and trash mails.

IBM to train 2 mln AI talents by end of 2026
IBM recently announced that it will train two million AI talents by the end of 2026. The company said it will add training programs with a focus on AI to its current IBM SkillsBuild platform. The new free course will include generative AI writing and robot learning, as well as optimizing customer service with AI.
Google claims Google search not a must for advertisers
Google ads senior executive Jerry Dischler said on Sept 19 when testifying at a federal anti-monopoly hearing in the US that Google search ads is not a must for any advertiser.
SoftBank plans to invest in OpenAI
SoftBank is trying to invest tens of billions of US dollars in the AI field, including OpenAI. The company is also thinking of a series of plans to substitute OpenAI, including investing a large sum of money in OpenAI’s direct competitors.
Intel’s new chip makes debut
At Intel Innovation 2023, a new generation of chip made its debut. Intel said that the brand-new chip is able to run the program of generative AI chatbot on laptops and doesn’t need cloud data center to obtain computing power. The company also demonstrated at the event how a laptop is able to generate songs and answer users’ questions through dialogues without connection to the internet.
