China Southern Airlines announced on Monday that it will start operating international flights again on December 1 from Guangzhou to New York. The announcement comes as Chinese airlines rush to resume their international flights.

According to China Southern, the weekly route from Guangzhou to New York is the third one to North America after those to Los Angeles and Toronto. This will be convenient for both students and business people.

As of October 20, 13 international services, including those from Wuhan to Istanbul, Shenzhen to Moscow, and Guangzhou to Dubai, had been restarted, according to China Southern.

Several other Chinese airlines have been hard at work recently resuming their foreign operations.

China Eastern Airlines said that starting on October 30, it would increase its weekly foreign flight capacity from 54 to 108.

Hainan Airlines announced that starting on October 30, it will operate ten round-trips to foreign destinations, including flights from Beijing to Brussels, Moscow, and Belgrade.

On October 15, Hainan Airlines' official Weibo announced that starting on November 6, there will be two round-trips per week on the Chongqing-Rome route.

Late in September, Air China announced the resumption of a number of overseas routes, including those from Beijing to Manila, Jakarta, and Tokyo.

Data from industry information supplier VariFlight revealed that demand for flights into and out of China has increased significantly over the last two months.

With an average of 78 flights per day, there were 2,337 flights in September. Based on tickets sold as of October 18, there are 2,652 international flights scheduled for November, with an average of 88 each day.

Although total flights on Chinese carriers have only slightly increased recently, there is now a definite growing tendency for overseas flights.

According to Hainan Airlines, its international passenger transport capacity input for September increased by 186.38 percent year over year in terms of available seat kilometers, and the international portion of passenger turnover increased by 99.10 percent year over year in terms of revenue passenger kilometers.

China Eastern said that its input of international passengers climbed by 13.07 percent and its turnover of those passengers increased by 25.06 percent year over year.

International flights are beneficial to China's economic development and personnel exchanges between China and other nations, according to Liang Nan, a representative of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), who stated this in June of this year.

In August, Chinese authorities changed the aviation circuit-breaker system to make it easier to resume international flights.

Beginning on August 7, any flight with five detected COVID-19 instances will be grounded for one week if the confirmed cases represent 4% of the passengers, and for two weeks if they represent 8%, according to the CAAC.
