A woman in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province, committed suicide by jumping from a building just days after her son died after he was hit by a car outside of a class building.
The accident was the subject of a heated debate online and reportedly took place in May this year.
The driver, a male teacher at the school, drove the car from the school's parking lot to a class building to pick up a female teacher.
According to netizens, normally, cars aren't supposed to reach class buildings and they should exit the parking lot and go directly through a school gate.
However, the teacher used a pedestrian road to enter the school and parked the car while waiting to pick up a female teacher outside a class building.
When the female teacher entered the car, they didn't notice that a first-grade student was crouching in front of the car and the teacher drove straight away, knocking and crushing the student.
Noticing that they have hit a student, they immediately took him to a hospital but he died during the emergency rescue.
The sad news quickly went viral online, with many questioning why the teacher was allowed to drive the car inside the school as it pose a great safety danger to children.
In fact, they argued, cars are not allowed inside elementary schools.
According to a police report, the teacher who was driving the car involved in the accident has been detained and the school principal, as well as the vice principal, have all been dismissed.
Adding Salt to the Wound
The mother of the son who died in the accident is reportedly also dead after jumping from a building because of online bullies.
Screenshots shared on social media reveal that she was bullied because she didn't look sad in interviews shared online, some netizens even accused her of putting on makeup before interviews.
Others also accused her of wearing 'beautiful clothes' for the interview.
Some comments on videos shared on social media questioned her motive for appearing in interviews and criticized her for being nonchalant about the death of her son.
"Just say how much you want to scam, don't play a victim." Wrote one commenter.
"How did you have time to put on makeup and wear such clothes?" Added many commenters.
"I'm afraid she will start (using this incident to do) live streaming." Another commenter wrote, insinuating that she will start making money by collecting netizens' gifts using this tragedy.
But other netizens defended her, saying that she was working when she received the news about her son's death, she must have gone directly to the scene wearing makeup and a uniform required at work.
It suffices to say that the mother couldn't take all the pressure and bullying while mourning her deceased child, and on June 2, media reports said that she took her own life.
