She said according to their local customs, the male family gives half of the dowry on the engagement ceremony and the remaining half on the wedding day.The two families had already negotiated and agreed on the conditions, i.e. the amount of dowry and that the man's family should add the woman's name on their house deed.
"Even before they got engaged, I had bought her two gold rings that cost about 10,000 yuan. I also bought clothes and paid her other daily expenses. If I have to count, then I must have spent about 120,000 yuan on her." Said Ms. Zhen.However, a day after the engagement, Ms. Zhen's son engaged in sexual activity with his fiancée, and his future mother-in-law found out about the affair.Ms. Zhen told reporters that the fiancée became moody after they had an affair so her son sent her home. The future mother-in-law then met the son to discuss the premarital sex he had with her daughter. She secretly recorded the conversation, and asked the son to immediately add her daughter's name on the house deed and pay the remaining 100,000 yuan dowry.
The man's family failed to satisfy the request in time and on the fourth day since the engagement, the fiancée went to the police to report that she was raped by her fiancé.Ms. Zhen's son was detained by the Yanggao County PSB police on May 5th on suspicion of rape. On June 26th, they were notified that the trial would begin on August 24th.The woman's mother denied the accusations that she forced her daughter to report the case because the man's family did not pay the remaining amount and failed to add her daughter's name to the house deed. She said the man forced her daughter to have sex with him, and since she did not consent, it is rape.
As of press time, Ms. Zhen's 27-year-old son has been detained for 108 days, his case will be heard in court this week.
