25年前，小说《大河之恋》的中文版上市了，尽管当时的译文有些晦涩。小说讲的是二十年代美国蒙大拿州小镇的故事，一家四口，父亲是神父，他坚称“宗教与钓鱼没有分界线”，因为在他看来，布道是在教堂传播上帝的人间福音，而钓鱼，则是在大河之上聆听上帝的自然律法。小说里讲的是兄弟二人各自的人生，他们使用不同的节奏抛出鱼线，走出两种生命轨迹。

1992年，导演罗伯特·雷德福将布拉德·皮特和汤姆·斯凯里特主演的这部电影搬上银幕。《大河恋》的配乐来自Mark Isham，他是当代著名的爵士乐手和作曲家，曾经为《撞车》、《童话镇》、《南极大冒险》、《勇士》、《伴你高飞》、《黑镜第四季》等作品配音。

In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing. We lived at the junction of great trout rivers in western Montana, and our father was a Presbyterian minister and a fly fisherman who tied his own flies and taught others. He told us about Christ's disciples being fishermen, and we were left to assume, as my brother and I did, that all first-class fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fishermen and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
