在4月19日，美国驻华使团的成员和我在北京国际饭店与中国的第一线应急救援人员见面，感谢他们在2月9日英勇地援助美国外交官和其家人，当时他们在北京北部一个徒步道上露营，但不幸发生意外。

此次不幸意外导致我们同事年少的儿子坠落身亡。我们的同事也在试图拯救儿子的过程中，身受重伤，急需医疗救助。

我们极为感激中方应急响应团队疾奔出事现场。在外交部所组织的感谢仪式上，我们见到了来自北京市公安局怀柔分局、国际会都消防救援站、杨宋消防救援站的成员，以及怀柔医院的医护人员。我们也见到两名当地的村民，多亏他们才能找到我们的同事并确保他的安全。

我们亲自向他们表示感谢，他们在那寒冷且条件极为艰巨的山区，历经千辛万苦救援我们的同事。

谨代表美国驻中华人民共和国使团，我要再次向这些英勇的中方第一线救援人员和医护人员，公开表达我们至深的感谢。

我们相信是他们拯救了我们同事的生命，对此，我们永远心存感激。

Statement of Appreciation from Ambassador  Nicholas Burns

On April 19, members of the U.S. Mission to China and I met at the Beijing International Hotel with Chinese first responders to thank them for their heroism in coming to the aid of an American diplomat and his family on February 9 after a tragic accident which occurred while they were camping on a trail north of Beijing.

This tragedy resulted in the devastating loss of our colleague’s young son who accidently fell to his death.  In attempting to save his son, our colleague was grievously injured and in desperate need of medical assistance.

We are very grateful to the Chinese emergency response teams who rushed to the scene.  In a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we met and thanked members of the Huairou Branch of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau; the International Huidu Fire Rescue Station; the Yangsong Fire Rescue Station; medical professionals from Huairou Hospital; and two local villagers who were critical in finding our colleague and bringing him to safety.

We thanked them personally for the extraordinary efforts they made to come to the rescue of our colleague under very cold and difficult conditions on the mountain. 

On behalf of the U.S. Mission to the People’s Republic of China, I want to express publicly once more our profound thanks to these brave Chinese first responders and medical professionals.  

We believe they saved the life of our colleague and for that we will always be grateful to them.
