Have A STD Check-up Before It's Too Late

RenaiHospital 2018-10-04

Sexually transmitted diseases(STD) are often blamed for questionable lifestyle choices. And STD patients usually feel embarrassed and sometimes even get discriminated against for it.

But, STD never equates to promiscuity, as some of STD patients are actually victims. Intimate contacts, sharing toothbrush, contaminated needles and etc, all can be sources of infection. For some reasons, we know little about STD. So today we're going to share with you some facts of the common STDs.

1. Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is common among people who take part in high levels of sexual activity. If left untreated dire complications will arise.

Some can take many years to arise and exhibit genital warts as a key characteristicPersistent itching and discolored swollen areas of the genitals are the first signs of genital warts. This can later lead to bleeding during intercourse.

HPV is also responsible for many cancers, particularly cervical cancer. It is therefore one of the most dangerous STDs plaguing countless people around the world.

2. Bacterial Varginosis – Yeast Infection

Bacterial varginosis is encountered by most women many times a year. All sexual active women who are capable of bearing children are susceptible to this STD. The condition arises due to an imbalance of the growth of healthy bacteria within the vagina.

The risk of contracting a yeast infection rises when a woman has multiple sexual partners. The first symptoms to arise include a burning sensation while urinating. Incessant itchiness is common, as is an unpleasant smell arising from the vagina.

3. Genital Herpes

Genital Herpes is a complication that arises from the herpes simplex type 1 or herpes simplex type 2 infections. This STD is transmitted through the mucous membranes during sexual intercourse and through rips and tears in the skin. Any exchange of bodily fluids  will cause infection in the uninfected individual.

Symptoms normally include burning sensation during urination, and blisters or sores surrounding the mouth; and anus or genitals also develop with flu-like indications.

4. Trichomoniasis

A bacterium known as Trichomonas vaginalis causes the condition termed trichomoniasis. These single-celled parasitic organisms  spread through sexual intercourse.

Its symptoms include a vaginal discharge carrying a clear, yellow or green coloration and vaginal or penile itching. One will also experience pain while urinating or having sex.

5. Chlamydia

Chlamydia forms as a bacterial infection within the genital tract. If it's detected late, it will become difficult to treat. It is transferred through any form of sexual intercourse which involves the transfer of infected bodily fluids.

Signs and symptoms include pain in the lower abdominal area. Women experience pain during sex, while men experience testicular pain. Females also develop a tendency to bleed either before or after their period.

6. Syphilis

Syphilis is an STD which has dire consequences if left untreated. Syphilis causes sores to develop during the early stages of infection. If an uninfected person comes into sexual contact with syphilis sores they will contract the disease. Early infections cause sores around the genitals, mouth, lips, mucous membranes and other areas of the skin.

The infection resembles a rash, later forming white lesions in the mouth, groin and underarms. When left without treatment the disease causes damage to your internal organs. The heart, brain, eyes, liver, nervous system, bones and joints are all susceptible to health complications, which can prove fatal.

7. HIV and AIDS

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the infection that results in Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. This STD has no known cure and is therefore one of the most dangerous diseases on the planet. It attacks the body’s immune system directly, therefore leaving it unprotected. You are then susceptible to all other infections and diseases.

The symptoms vary, including indications that resemble flu, such as high fevers, chronic diarrhea and unexplained weight loss. Coughing, shortness of breath and swollen lymph nodes are also common.

8. Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea most often arises among people between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four. “The clap” is the common name for this disease resulting from the Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium. This STD typically occurs as the result of a bacterial infection within the genital tract.

However it is possible to develop Gonorrhea in the mouth, throat, eyes and anus. Early warning signs include a thick cloudy or bloody vaginal or penile discharge. Urination is known to be painful, accompanied by an itchy anus and painful bowel movements. Women bleed irregularly, both between and during their periods. Men develop swollen testicles while women have an unnaturally heavy flow.
