The number of users in the workplace is actually about the same as that of students. Professionals account for 43.69% of those who still insist on learning English, even though they have no pressure to learn.

即使没有来自学业的压力,43.69%的人在毕业后仍选择坚持学习英语,这也使职场人群在学习英语总人群中的占比与学生党齐平。

职场人VS学生党=不同风格的英语选手

Watching American TV series has become the main way to learn English after finishing their academic career.

在脱离学业压力后,消遣式学习追美剧成为了职场人士主要的英语学习方式。

就学生党自身而言,英语学习重心也从高中阶段的刷题逐渐转移到了博士阶段的以英语阅读为主。来看下你是哪一阶段的英语学习选手?

It is encouraging that nearly 50% of users learn English for the purpose of improving themselves.

与英语打交道多年,越来越多的人开始翻身做了它的主人,近五成用户学习英语的主要目的是为了提升自我。

那些年你交给英语的小金库,最终又被它加倍带回了身边。

People tend to spend more on English learning if they have a specific goal. If they want to go abroad, they are willing to pay 20,000 yuan for English courses first. Teachers are right about this: People with higher English proficiency are usually paid more at work.

Not many Chinese would choose to put English books on their reading list. While reading plays a fundamental role in building up one's speaking and listening skills, it's advisable to develop a habit of English reading.

当下国人对英语阅读重视程度较低,但阅读是口语、听力的重要基础,要勤于练习、养成英语阅读习惯。

可谓,书读百遍其义自见,想学好英语,先读它个百本百遍。

You can start with original English books and English news reports that you can read without too much difficulties. Try to get as much information as you can while reading them, and the new words will get to you naturally with that information.

建议从适合自己英语水平的英文原版书籍以及英语新闻资讯入手;阅读过程中重视信息的获取,理解性记忆生词。

Cultivate your own interest in reading, then you will be willing to adhere  to and benefit from it.

培养自己的阅读兴趣,才会乐于坚持,并从中获益。

Abandon就是你背单词的极限了?

Memorizing words requires constant review : the famous Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve indicates that if you memorize the words without reviewing, you will forget nearly 80% of them after a week.

背单词需要反复曝光记忆:著名的艾宾浩斯遗忘曲线表示——如果只背单词不复习,一周后将遗忘近80%。

Comprehension is much better than rote memorization: it takes 54 times to remember 36 random letter combinations, but remembering the 480 meaningful letter combinations in a poem only takes eight attempts on average.

理解性记忆效果比死记硬背高很多:记住36个无规律字母组合需54次;记住诗歌中有含义的480个字母组合平均只需8次。

听了100首英文歌却从没看懂过歌词?

Attaching more importance to listening than reading can be a common misconception among Chinese ESL (English as A Second Laguage) learners :

只听不读是国人的常见误区:听力和阅读之间密不可分,后者是前者的基础。

There are highly relevant relations between listening and reading as outstanding reading comprehension skills can lead to a solid foundation of listening capabilities. Extensive reading plus intensive training in listening will greatly help improve listening skills.

大量阅读的基础上加强听力的训练对听力的提高有着直接的、重大的影响。

Generally speaking, it is impossible for you to understand what you are listening without enough storage of vocabulary and language points, therefore, these two elements are essential in English  learning.

词汇量和语言知识很重要:没有一定词汇量和语言知识,即使听清了音也不知其意。

Although watching English TV series is a feasible way to improve learning skills, learners should avoid watching subtitles and focus on the sound and meaning of the words combined with the understanding of the context.

看美剧练听力是可行的方式,但要注意挡字幕,集中注意力结合场景留意单词发音和含义。

张口抬手大脑空白是我的英语状态?

High speaking and writing skills come with massive amount of language input:

想要练好口语和写作,首先要有大量的输入:

敲黑板:读书破万卷下笔如有神。

While talking about developing language proficiency, College English Syllabus puts reading and listening skills before speaking, writing and translating on purpose, which suggests that your ability to use a language is determined by how much language materials you've taken in.

《大学英语教学大纲》论及各能力的培养时,有意将读、听放在说、写、译之前,主要说明输入能力决定你的输出能力。

A sound basis of language input, together with more practices in speaking and writing, you'll find your way.

提高输出基础后,加之口音练习、写作技巧、反复尝试,才是学习的正确顺序。

趴桌子上午休醒来发现被刚发的卷子淹没了?刷题的正确心态是......

Your exam grades can reflect your English proficiency level. When you've done numerous exercises but can't get higher scores any more, that means you are in the bottleneck stage.

核心的英语水平决定试卷上的表现,当你刷题却得不到提高时,实际上到达英语水平瓶颈。

Doing exercises is a way of testing yourself instead of improving English proficiency level and using it as the main learning method.

刷题是考核方式,而不是提高方式,更不是主要学习法。

The real purpose of doing exercises is to help you get familiar with those tests and make sure you can do your best while taking a real one.

刷题的真正作用是提高对考试熟悉度、帮你更好的发挥各方面能力。
