Born in the lava fields of Hawaii in the late 1970s, IRONMAN triathlon is coming to China this fall. With two brand new races in Hefei and Xiamen, the training journey and triumph of crossing an IRONMAN finish line is closer than ever before.
Whether you've always wanted to complete a triathlon or have been athletic all your life, there's still plenty of time left to train for one of the two events. Choose to challenge yourself at the full event, or team up with a few friends or colleagues for the relay—a unique way to participate in the event in a more manageable chunk. This is your year: pick from one of these two events and get ready to chase your dream.
IRONMAN 70.3 Hefei on October 16 consists of a 1.9-km (1.2-mile) swim, 90-km (56-mile) bike, and 21-km (13.1-mile) run held in the iconic capital city of Anhui Province. The city boasts an impressive collection of botanical gardens, temples, and other historical sites to help make your visit truly memorable. To name a few, the Lord Bao Park teahouse is free to visit, Dashu mountain offers a popular hike, and the Hefei Zoo is a family-friendly option. Average highs in October are 22 degrees C (71 degrees F—perfect racing weather.
A month later, on November 13th, IRONMAN 70.3 Xiamen will be held along the picturesque Island Ring Road of Xiamen Island and the coastal avenues on the mainland. The race consists of the same distances as the Hefei event. Xiamen, the "Garden of the Sea," is a modern port city and a prime tourist destination located on the southeast coast of China. Its sea views are backed by impressive cityscapes, offering a unique blend of the natural and urban. This coastal city is simultaneously ancient and modern, traditional and progressive, relaxation and revitalizing, and named one of the most livable cities in China.
