Mike Pompeo: There's enormous evidence that’s where this began. … I can tell you that there’s a significant amount of evidence that this came from that laboratory in Wuhan.

This gonna be good, right? Finally, there’s proof! Even I'm a little excited for this. Despite scientists around the world declaring the virus has a natural origin, the all-knowing American government has still managed to find proof to the contrary. I can't wait to see that proof.

Host: Do you believe [the virus] was man-made or genetically modified?

蓬佩奥：最顶级的专家目前认为病毒是人造的，我目前也没有理由不相信他们。

Pompeo: The best experts so far seem to think it was man-made, I have no reason to disbelieve that at this point.

Host: Your Office of the DNI says the consensus, the scientific consensus was not man-made or genetically modified.

Pompeo: That's right, I agree with that. Yeah, I’ve seen their analysis, I've seen the summary that you saw that was released publicly, I have no reason to doubt that that is accurate at this point.

So … let's unpack this. You believe the claim that it’s man-made, AND you believe the scientific consensus, that it's not man-made? Is contradiction a contagious disease in the White House? Why does everyone inside keep doing this?

Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo keep pushing their conspiracy theory, yet haven’t released any proof to the public.

But does it matter to them whether they have solid proof?

All they need to do is change the public’s view about who is responsible. 

独立调查新闻机构“灰色地带”发布一篇报道称，关于“新冠病毒是从武汉病毒研究所泄漏出来的”阴谋论，正是特朗普政府版本的“伊拉克有大规模杀伤性武器”。

A report published on The Grayzone says "A conspiracy theory about Covid-19 escaping from China's Wuhan Institute of Virology is the Trump administration's Iraqi WMD."

确实是很有意思的一个对比。

A valid comparison.

美国政府似乎在使用他们一个惯用的伎俩，17年前，他们就是用这招来对付伊拉克的。

It seems the American government is using a tactic similar to the one they used 17 years ago in Iraq.

2003年，美国领导了对伊拉克的入侵，声称因为萨达姆持有大量的大规模杀伤性武器。

In 2003, the U.S. led the invasion of Iraq and justified their actions by claiming Saddam Hussein possessed a pile of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

但在轰炸巴格达、并给中东带去连年战乱后，连大规模杀伤性武器的影子都没见着。

Yet after bombing Baghdad and bringing chaos to the Middle East, no WMDs were found. 

但是由于布什政府长期的忽悠性政治宣传，入侵伊拉克前的一个盖洛普民意调查显示，64%的美国民众表示支持这场战争。

But after a long propaganda campaign by the Bush administration, a Gallup poll before the invasion showed 64 percent of the American public was in favor of the war.

战争开始后，这个数字又进一步增长到72%。布什的支持率竟然还增长了13个百分点。

And number further rose to 72% a few days after the invasion. And Bush's approval up by 13 points!

现在你看出他们政治宣传的危险性了吗？他们既掩盖了自己的错误，又通过制造恐慌以及对某个国家的妖魔化宣传慢慢让民众相信，哪怕是轰炸别国，入侵别国，都可以被描绘成正义的行为。

So now do you see how dangerous their campaigns can be? Not only do they gloss over their mistakes, these fearmongering, demonizing campaigns will eventually make people believe invading and bombing other countries is justified.

所以他们就是在转嫁责任。明明是由于特朗普政府对于疫情的处置不当，才导致上百万美国人感染新冠病毒，他们却通过制造对中国的仇恨，让民众认为中国是一切痛苦的源泉。

So they are shifting the blame from the Trump administration's mishandling of the pandemic, which left millions of Americans infected, and inciting hatred toward China, making the public believe China is the source of their misery.

整场疫情期间，他们一刻不停地甩锅中国，白宫不仅要求美国政府官员指责中国，现在还希望盟国也一起来指责中国。

Even during this pandemic, they've never taken a break from the China blame game. The White House is not only pushing U.S. officials to blame China, now they are also enlisting the help of foreign allies in the blame game.

但这都只是政治手段，我懂，每个政客都会这么干。显然，特朗普政府这么做就是为了连任而已。

But you know what, it's a political game. I get it, every politician does that, and apparently, Trump's administration does that in order to stay in power.

But do you seriously want to play this game while sacrificing the lives of Americans in the process?

在伊拉克战争中，受伤害的不止是伊拉克乃至整个中东地区的人民。上千亿美元投入到这场失败的战争中，数以千计的美国士兵牺牲，还有太多太多的后果，在这个视频中根本说不完。

In the Iraq War, not only did the people of Iraq and the general Middle East suffer, trillions of dollars were spent in that failed war, thousands of Americans sacrificed their lives and there were too many other consequences to name in a video this short.

疫情肆虐全球，美国的感染数字远高于世界其他国家。

And now, as the pandemic wreaks havoc, America has more cases than any other country. 

你是不是应该先给本国人提供一些人道救援，再去“帮助”其他国家啊？

Maybe you should provide humanitarian aid for your own people first before "helping" people in other countries.

特朗普：我每天晚上听新闻说我们的数字全球最高，我们才不是全球死亡病例最多的国家呢。

Trump: When I listen to the press every night saying we have the most, we don't have the most deaths in the world.

特朗普政府看来更关心钱和权力，而不是保护美国人民的性命，而这本应该是他们的主要任务啊。

Trump's administration cares more about money and power than protecting American lives, which should be their main objective.

尽管特朗普政府拿不出什么实锤证据来证明他们的中国阴谋论，他们持续不断的“指责中国”政治宣传似乎起作用了。

Although Trump's administration has produced zero evidence to prove conspiracy theories, their constant China-blaming propaganda is working.

皮尤研究中心最新的一个调查显示，将近三分之二的美国人表示，他们现在对中国的看法很负面，这也是自2005年以来，最负面的一次结果。这个数据自特朗普上任以来，上升了20%。

According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, roughly two-thirds of Americans say they now have an unfavorable view of China, the most negative rating since 2005, and up by nearly 20 percentage points since the start of the Trump administration.

为了甩锅他们自己应对疫情的失误，华盛顿变得越来越热衷于煽动阴谋论，说他们的问题都是其他国家导致的。

In order to pass the buck for their incompetent handling of the outbreak, Washington has become passionate about peddling conspiracy theories and blaming their shortcomings on other countries.

That reminds me of something Pompeo said himself.
