世卫组织发出警告：“世界正处于一个新的危险阶段”

当地时间19日，世界卫生组织总干事谭德塞发出警告称“世界正处于一个新的危险阶段”。他指出，18日全球上报的新冠肺炎新增确诊病例超过了15万例，创历史新高。其中，近半数新增病例来自美洲，还有大量病例来自南亚和中东地区。

“许多人已经厌倦了待在家里，各国也渴望重启社会和经济。但是病毒依然在快速蔓延，它依然是致命的，大部分人依然属于易感人群，”谭德塞说道。同时，他提醒各国应保持高度警惕，并敦促人们继续保持社交距离、佩戴口罩并勤于洗手。

The coronavirus pandemic is accelerating, with Thursday’s newly confirmed cases worldwide surpassing 150,000, the highest since the outbreak of coronavirus, the World Health Organization (WHO) said. "The world is in a new and dangerous phase," Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual briefing on Friday. "The virus is still spreading fast, it is still deadly, and most people are still susceptible," he said. 

依旧严峻的形势

巴西确诊病例数破100万

巴西卫生部6月19日发布的数据显示，新冠肺炎累计确诊病例达1,032,913例，死亡48,954例；过去24小时巴西新增确诊病例54,771例，创单日最大增幅。巴西成为继美国后，全球第二个确诊病例超过100万例的国家。

与此同时一些专家也担忧，由于巴西国内未开展大规模检测，实际感染人数可能远超目前公布的数目。

The number of COVID-19 cases in Brazil crossed the one million mark to 1,032,913 on Friday, with 1,206 new deaths, taking total official fatalities to 48,954, according to the Health Ministry. Friday also saw a new record daily number of cases, with 54,771 cases being confirmed. 

As the numbers of infections and deaths continue to surge, Brazil, the Latin American country has become the second worst-hit country in the world following the U.S.. Even so, many experts say the lack of widespread testing indicates that the true extent of the outbreak far exceeds the official figures, and the outbreak is weeks away from its peak.

美国华盛顿大学卫生统计评估研究所公布的最新模型预测结果显示，到10月1日，美国新冠肺炎累计死亡病例可能超过20万例。这比该机构此前预测的死亡病例数增加了3万例。研究所所长克里斯托弗·默里表示，如果美国无法控制9月的新冠病例增长，那么疫情将可能在10月、11月及随后的几个月面临恶化的趋势，尤其是新冠肺炎疫情与流感季重叠，形势将更加令人担忧。

A coronavirus model designed by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington projected that more than 200,000 Americans could die of COVID-19 by October 1. Compared with IHME’s previous projection, the latest forecast marks an increase of 30,000 deaths.

Christopher Murray, Director of IHME warned that if the growth of confirmed cases was not controlled by September, the country would confront worsening trends in October, November, and the following months. And the pandemic might meet the flu season at that time, which would make the situation even worse in the U.S.

埃及单日新增确诊病例创新高

当地时间6月19日，埃及卫生部表示当天新增新冠肺炎确诊病例1,774例，创埃及出现疫情以来的单日最高值。截至当地时间6月19日，埃及累计确诊病例达52,211例，死亡病例达2,017例。 

According to statistics from the Egyptian Health Ministry, Egypt reported 1,774 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the highest daily increase so far, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 52,211. The ministry also reported 79 patients died from the coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 2,017. 

伊朗确诊病例超20万

伊朗卫生与医学教育部6月19日宣布，截至当天中午，伊朗单日新增新冠确诊病例2,615例，累计确诊200,262例，累计死亡9,392例。

Iran's confirmed novel coronavirus cases rose to 200,262 on Friday after an overnight jump of 2,615 new infections, announced by Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education. The pandemic has so far claimed 9,392 lives in Iran. The country has now become the hardest hit country by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Middle East region. 

困境中的希望

虽然全球疫情目前呈现出了加速蔓延的趋势，但世卫组织总干事谭德塞在17日的记者发布会上表示，“战胜疫情的希望是有的”。他提到，有许多国家在抗击疫情的过程中为世界树立了好的榜样。它们向世界展示了如何通过对患者进行检测、追踪、隔离和照顾进而有效地抑制病毒的传播。

另一方面，全球新冠疫苗研发也传来了积极的消息。当地时间18日，世卫组织首席科学家苏米娅·斯瓦米纳坦表示，全球范围内至少有200个新冠疫苗正在研发，其中约10个疫苗已经进入人体试验阶段。据乐观估计，今年年底之前有望出现成功的候选疫苗。到明年年底，疫苗产量可达20亿剂。

新冠病毒是人类共同的敌人，面对这个危险的敌人，各国必须合作应对。没有任何一个国家可以在此次疫情危机中独善其身。正如世卫组织总干事谭德塞所说，“通过全球合作，人类能够战胜此次疫情。”

Even though the alarm level continues to be high, “there are green shoots of hope, which show that together through global solidarity, humanity can overcome this pandemic,” said Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday during a media briefing. 

He added that “we now have good examples of many countries that have shown how to effectively suppress the virus with a combination of testing, tracing, and quarantining patients and caring for those that get sick.” 

There is also positive news about coronavirus vaccines. WHO's chief scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan said on Thursday that “if we are lucky, there will be one or two successful candidates before the end of this year."
