Chen Yongfeng, a social studies teacher at the former Caoqiao Middle School in Pinghu, a county-level city in Zhejiang Province, died in a car accident in 2002, at the age of 28. For Chen's students, he was a confident and beloved teacher, who always had faith in them and encouraged them at school. The sudden death was a great shock for his students, and of course his parents that find themselves alone. Cao Yuping, now a university teacher, was one of Chen's students. She was also one of the initiators of the activity.
