21日6时,中央气象台继续发布高温红色预警,这已经是中央气象台连续第10天发布高温红色预警。

预计今天白天,甘肃南部、陕西南部、河南、安徽、江苏南部、上海、湖北、湖南、江西、浙江、福建、四川中东部、重庆、贵州东部和北部、云南东北部、广东北部、广西北部等地有35~39℃高温天气。其中,陕西南部、四川东部、重庆、湖北、湖南中北部、安徽东南部、江西西北部、浙江中南部等地的部分地区最高气温可达40℃以上。

China's national observatory on Sunday renewed a red alert for high temperatures, the most severe warning in its four-tier warning system, as sweltering heatwaves will continue in many regions of the country.

During the daytime on Sunday, parts of Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, Anhui and other provincial regions are expected to experience high temperatures of 35 to 39 degrees Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Temperatures in Shaanxi, Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui, Jiangxi and Zhejiang may surpass 40 degrees Celsius, the meteorological center said.

It advised local authorities to take emergency measures against heatwaves, suspend outdoor work that is exposed to high temperatures, pay close attention to fire safety and take particular care of vulnerable groups.

近日来,全国多地持续的晴热天气引发了社会关注。

我国风云系列气象卫星第一时间获取了高温地区观测资料,并利用多型卫星进行严密监测,为防暑工作提供有力数据支持。

中国航天科技集团八院风云四号卫星总体主任设计师范颖婷表示,本次高温持续时间非常长、强度大、范围广。针对此次高温的实时监测,是通过风云二号G星、风云三号C星、D星以及风云四号A星和B星来实现。通过对历史时期的数据比对,对我们认识区域性的高温过程和它的历史严重程度有着重要的作用。

同时,风云系列卫星中的风云三号卫星可以通过自身携带的红外高光谱大气探测仪、微波湿度计等载荷对高温地区的旱情提供预警。

China's FengYun weather satellites (or FY) have been closely monitoring key data as the country has been hit by the intense heatwave.

The global heatwave has impacted the country starting from June 13 and lasted for more than two months, swiping from southwestern Sichuan Province to coastal Jiangsu. In some areas, temperatures have exceeded 40-degrees Celsius.

"This year's heatwave has the characteristic of long duration, high intensity and hits a wide range of areas," said Fan Yingting, general chief designer of the FengYun-4 satellites.

China started launching FengYun meteorological satellite series since the 1970s and has deployed 19 in orbit with seven of them operational, including FY-2G, FY-3C, FY-3D, FY-4A, and FY-4B that have played an important role for meteorologists to look at regional temperature history and spectrum during the current heatwave, according to Fan.

As heatwaves cause other meteorological disasters such as droughts, typhoons, rainstorms and snowstorms, they can result in serious losses. 

Environmental data monitored and obtained by FY-3 is used for analyzing the development of regional drought and disaster management through early-warning announcement.

 有关部门全力应对长江流域旱情 

连续的高温使我国南方部分地区出现了较为严重的旱情。

8月18日,中央气象台发布了今年首个干旱预警,10个省份出现中度及以上气象干旱,局部地区特旱。各地发挥水利基础设施作用,科学调度,全力应对旱情。

8月16日,水利部长江委发布调度令,当天12点起调度三峡水库向长江中下游补水。截至21日一早,长江上游水库群、洞庭湖水库群和鄱阳湖水库群,已累计向下游补水9.8亿立方米。


China's national observatory, on August 18, issued a yellow alert for drought, the third most serious level of China's four-tier, color-coded weather warning system. Authorities in affected areas have taken several drought relief measures to ensure crop irrigation. Since July, China's southern, central and southwestern regions have experienced droughts due to high temperatures and low precipitation.

As of August 16, reservoirs of the Yangtze River, China's longest one, have discharged 980 million cubic meters of water into the lower reaches to help fight the country's worst drought, China Media Group (CMG) reported on Sunday, citing the Ministry of Water Resources. 

The water discharge is a part of a more extensive water replenishment plan that aims to dispatch 1.48 billion cubic meters of water in total to the lower reaches of the river.    

Since July, most areas of the Yangtze River basin have experienced high temperatures accompanied by 45 percent less rainfall than in previous years. According to the ministry, the Yangtze River reservoirs replenished 5.3 billion cubic meters of water in the middle and lower reaches of the river between August 1-15.    

So far, drought has affected 2.46 million people and around 2.2 million hectares of farmland in the provinces of Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi and Anhui as well as the Chongqing Municipality.
