Mobile payment has become a huge part of our daily life in China. Almost everyone uses WeChat pay and Alipay all the time. But the potential dangers of using mobile wallets are very real. So what we can do to prevent further loss if we lose our phones.
If you lose your phone and someone hacks into it, they can scan your mobile payment QR code and take out all your money easily.
Here are some tips for setting up one more layer of security on your mobile payment apps.
For WeChat :
1. Turn on your WeChat App, enter the “Me” page, go into “ Wallet “
2. Tapon the cubes on the right top.
3, Go into payment security (you can also go in payment management to reset your payment password or turn on the “Pay with Touch ID” for current security)
4. Choose“Wallet Lock”
5. Choose your preferred unlocking method - fingerprint lock or pattern password lock, and set up your password if required.
Done! After enabling the wallet lock, any time someone else tries to get into your WeChat wallet, they’ll have to go through an extra lock!
Quite similar to WeChat, for Alipay:
1. Turn on your Alipay App, enter the “Me” page, go into “Settings” at the top right.
2. Go into the “Security Center”
3. choose “Touch ID/Pattern Unlock”
4. Setup your own password lock
You'll probably notice there is a “secret signal” in the security center – what’s this for? The secret signal is a verification method when you log into your Alipay account from a phone that has never logged into your account before. You will be asked to pick out the ‘secret signal’ you’ve previously set up, and you can't try repeatedly, so it secures your account with an even stronger defence.
Here is how to use the secret signal on Alipay.
1. Go to “Secret Signal”
2. Choose “Take a picture” or “ draw a picture” as your signal.
3. For those who choose “take a picture”, you’ll be asked to take a picture after verification - tap submit after you take a perfect picture, but please note that do not take a photo of your face, your name or any part of your body.
4. For those who choose “ draw a picture”, you’ll be asked to draw a picture, verify your account, tap submit after you’ve channeled your inner Van Gogh and draw the one you want, but please note to do not write down any letters.
