Attention!

People heading to North America, from June 30th, are not allowed to carry powders equal to or more than 350ml (12 ounces). This new safety rule is targeting international flights landing in America. Not only will airports in the United States enforce the rule, but the TSA has also asked other international airports to do the same checks on passengers.

Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong airports will all be affected.

According to the new rules, typical powders exceeding 350ml are not allowed to be carried onboard airplanes, including instant coffee, soda, flour, adult milk powder, protein powder, laundry powder and other cosmetic product.

However, there are exceptions. Milk powder for babies and medicine powder will not be checked. You can still take these with you onto the flight.

From last Wednesday, the TSA has started to increase the safety check strength. They will check each individual can of powder in a passenger’s luggage. If the passenger cannot explain what these powders are, TSA will ask passengers to dispose of them or put them in checked luggage.

Powders purchased in duty-free are exempt, similar to liquids and wine purchased in duty-free stores, where they will wrap products properly.

TSA claims that this new rule is with regard to anti-terrorism. TSA worries about terrorists bringing certain powders onboard to produce biochemical weapons on international flights. Beyond this, some other drugs are easily transported through flights into the United States.

As the safety check gets more strict, more people will be waiting in line for an even longer time. People who plan to travel to the United States might want to get to the airport earlier than normal, just in case, the safety check takes too much time.

The safety check is now even more complicated.

This March, the TSA announced new rules that carry-on luggage will be checked more strictly than before. Before x-ray checks, passengers need to take electronic products and food out for convenience. On their Twitter account, the TSA says that most foods are allowed to be carried on, but liquid and gels exceeding 3.4 ounces are prohibited.

All suitcases entering US airports have to be opened for safety checks. So, if your suitcase does not have a TSA lock, the official has the right to break it.

Furthermore, the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) have also released new rules. All customs officials have the legal right to ask passengers entering the US for the password to their electronic products, including tablets, hard drives, cassettes, cellphones, cameras and music players.

Here is a list of items banned:

Banned carry-on items:

Canned paint, detonator, chlorine, extinguisher, firework, inflammable items, gasoline, fuel, welding torch, grenade, lighter, bleach, explosive, tear gas, colophonium, paint thinner, airbags, flares, gunpowder.

These items are not allowed on flights in almost all countries.

Here are some common rules for customs:

1.  Only biological products that have acquired permission from Disease Control Center can enter.

2.  Book, videos, programs, and CDs: pirate copies are prohibited.

3.  Currency: declare to customs when you have a large amount of cash.

4.  Pets: Primates like monkeys and apes are not allowed. Other pets like cats and dogs need to have an inspection report and go through the correct process.

5.  Wild animals and biological cultures are prohibited.

6.  Antique and cultural heritage items need to have been granted permission from the country of origin.

Some countries have specific rules.

US: All meat products are prohibited unless they are canned goods.

Canada: All medicine must have a prescription from doctors.

European countries: No meat or dairy products. All fruit, vegetables, and plants are prohibited.

Africa: No ivory in or out. You may end up in jail for transporting ivory.

Bringing ivory into China will be punished by customs. Worst case scenario, you might be prosecuted for criminal liability.

Every country has different rules. Share with us if your home country has other items that are prohibited, so everyone can watch out for it.
