Don't Forget to Do These Things After You Arrive in China

The Chinese work permit process can be very confusing. That’s why we have a step by step guide on how to obtain your Chinese work 'Z' visa. 

A Z visa is a work visa that is valid for foreigners for 1 year. The first step in applying for a work permit is to get your “Notice of Work Permit for Foreigners”.

Foreigners who enter China with a Z visa must apply for their China Work Permit and Residential Work Permit for Foreigners within 30 days.

Steps:

Pick up China Work Permit

Go to the Foreign Experts Bureau 

1. Submit the Z visa and your passport which includes the entry stamp to the Foreign Experts Bureau. 

The following is an example of the page in your passport which includes the entry stamp on the Z visa date.

2. Submit a medical report. 

3. Submit all original documents related to the application.

Next, you’ll need to go to the Exit and Entry Administration of the Public Security Bureau to apply for a foreigners residence permit.

Obtaining Residence Permit

Go to the Exit and Entry Administration of the Public Security Bureau

Step:

1. Complete the “Enterprise Foreign-related Enterprise Filing” for your company. (This part of the process can be completed online.)

2. Complete the Temporary Accommodation Form.

3. Make an appointment at the local Exit and Entry Administration of the Public Security Bureau to apply for your foreign residence permit.

4. Submit the related documents and passport, (if necessary, the Public Security Bureau will arrange the police to visit for inspection). Once the inspecition is complete, you’ll collect your passport after 7 days. There will be a new residence permit page in your passport which will allow you to enter and exit China within its validity period.
