World’s First Rare All-White Panda Caught on Camera
Have you ever seen an all-white panda?!
The Wolong National Nature Reserve Administration in Sichuan province, China released its first photo of a white giant panda on May 25th.
The panda was captured in April by an infrared camera about 2,000 meters above sea level in the wild.
The panda, with white fur, white paws, and red eyes is shown making its way through the lush primeval deciduous broadleaved forest. The picture clearly shows the unique features of this panda and judging by its size, it is a young panda, probably between 1-2 years old.
According to expert analysis, the white panda is albino. The phenomenon of "albinism" is widespread in various groups of vertebrate but is relatively rare. It is usually caused by a gene mutation that prevents the normal synthesis of melanin in the animal body. This results in the appearance of white, yellowish white, or light yellow.
Simple "albino" mutation does not affect the normal body structure and physiological function of animals. It may cause animals to be more easily found in the wild environment and the skin/body is more sensitive to direct sunlight. Typically, there is no obvious influence on daily activities and reproduction of albino animals.
The panda showed that the albinism genes exist in the wild population of giant pandas in Wolong, he said.
What do you think of this white albino panda?
