Look no further Janes and Hooch, one of the sleekest cocktail bars in Beijing, has welcomed in another slug of sophistication (not that it needed it) for the late summer months. Its name is Qui Si Beve, meaning 'Let's Drink' in Italian, and is inspired by the Italian Futurism movement of the 1920s and 1930s. Although primarily an art movement, it turns out the speed, youth, irreverence and technology of the period translate very well into cocktails, which is good news for cross-cultural studies and even better news for thirsty Beijingers. The drinks on offer are split into classics, spritzes and slushies, all at 80RMB and all based on vermouth and aromatised wines from the Italian heritage brand Cocchi. We particularly like the manhattan, which has been re-imagined with a touch of chocolate, giving it a deep, bittersweet note. The stars of the show, however, are really the alcoholic slushies, particularly the suitably named star master, which comes frozen and glorious in a test-tube beaker sat atop a light-up base, which we definitely needed in our lives. The frozen negroni is also fabulous – when a frozen drink with a cocktail umbrella, a toy plastic dinasour and a neon lollipop is served to you, you'd be forgiven for expecting some kind of over-the-top, sugary confection. In fact, what you get is a hard-hitting negroni with a pleasingly bitter grapefruit twist, which certainly isn't as child-friendly as it looks. 'It takes a lot of money to look this cheap,' said the unfailingly wise Dolly Parton. Likewise, you have to be pretty serious about your drinks to get away with shaking up numbers that are this un-serious. Luckily for us, the Qui Si Beve folk are just that. Qui Si Beve will be at Janes and Hooch until late September. For more amazing cocktail bars, hit '阅读原文' below.
