Beijing is now China's leading cashless society
Love WeChat wallet and Alipay? Apparently, so does everyone else
According to Renmin University of China, internet behemoths Tencent and French market researchers Ipsos, us Beijingers uses cashless payment methods even more than any other city in China.
A whopping 324 Mainland cities took part in the joint study, which indicated that, surprise, just about the entire country is pretty reliant on online payment apps. Even people living in rural areas are riding the Alipay wave, with half of the country's cashless transactions coming from its more remote regions.
Scrooge McDuck would be buggered.
Researchers reckon that, according to the results of a poll answered by 6,500 big spenders, about 84 percent of Chinese folk are a-okay with leaving the house minus cold hard cash, with 70 percent confident they would survive for a whole week with only a solitary hundo in their possession.
Basically, we're throwing our wallets aside in resignation and shouting 'welcome!' to the transactions of tomorrow.
