Facebook is now operating in China via a sneaky photo app
Oooh, that Mark Zuckerberg's a stealthy one
According to... well, everyone, infamously de rigeur internet megatron Facebook has managed to get a foothold in the Chinese market, despite it being banned by the Chinese Government. The social networking company, whose main site has been inaccessible in China since 2009, has released a photo-sharing app along the lines of its Moments feature exclusively in the Chinese market; the app is called Colourful Balloons, was launched back in May and is near-identical to the popular Facebook feature.
Facebook has stated that the reason the app was released minus its distinctive branding was in order to study the organic growth of apps in China. The social media giant hasn't spilled the beans on whether or not its pals at the Politburo are aware of the app, but considering that 'Colourful Balloons' was produced in conjunction with a Chinese development company and is accessed through WeChat it seems pretty likely that the powers-that-be are down, at least to some extent, to hang with Zuckerberg and co.
Marky boy, we're impressed; accept a WeChat sticker as a reward, and try and sneak more stuff past the censors so we don't have to keep throwing money at our VPN providers.
There you go.
