微信号 TimeOutBeijingEN 功能介绍 TimeOutBeijing英文刊官方微信 You read that right: KFC has branched out into mooncakes, and they're insane Mid-Autumn Festival is almost here and with it comes hoards of holidaymakers, bucket-loads of hairy crabs, fancy mooncakes and, for some reason this year, a dose of finger-lickin' goodness. That's right: KFC is serving up its very own version of mooncakes. Although the obvious response to this is to shudder, we love to put our bodily health on the line Jackass-style for the admiration and respect of our readers, so we took the plunge and scarfed a few down for research purposes. Take me to your leader, earthlings. Just to be clear, the whole concept of a KFC mooncake is deeply, profoundly odd. When we think of KFC, our minds gravitate toward thoughts of Colonel Sanders, crippling hangovers and desperate late-night expeditions for popcorn chicken. We do not, however, think of traditional Chinese baked goods. We'll be honest, we were a little skeptical about KFC's take on the mooncake (if you can't tell). There's nothing wrong with it, it's just that KFC and Mid-Autumn Festival isn't a collaboration we were expecting – like if Dada upped sticks to set up shop in Gongti, that time Paul McCartney did a song with Kanye West and Rihanna, or Donald Trump and politics. A healthy dose of skepticism goes well with a healthy(?) dose of mooncake. The KFC mooncake is a small piece of flaky pastry filled with pork – we'll admit we were slightly disappointed it wasn't chicken. It has the letter 'K' stamped on it, which presumably stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken (sadly, not 'ketamine') and should help you not get them mixed up with the fancy ones from The Peninsula.  All in all, it wasn't too bad. The pastry crumbles nicely and the filling is, perhaps at want of a slightly more helpful description, fine. While you're obviously not going to seek out your local KFC (which won't be too difficult as it's apparently the country's largest restaurant chain) just to get a mooncake, it's a nice novelty thing to order alongside your usual burger, breast or bucket. The KFC mooncakes are 8RMB each or 14RMB for two. A special autumn combo meal is also available for 43RMB until October 8. For more mooncake madness, hit '阅读原文'.
