China Rail is launching a frequent rider programme tomorrow
Ride or die and get rewards
On 20 December 2017, China Railway is launching a frequent rider program
for local and foreign passengers with legal identification. Riders can
apply for the program at 12306.cn, on the China Railway app or at
service windows at any train station.
Frequent rider memberships
can be shared by up to eight people over 12 years of age, and they can
all earn credits at a rate of five credits per 1RMB spent on train tickets
(100RMB earns 500 credits). Credits are earned five days after a train
trip, and can be redeemed only after 10,000 credits have been
accumulated, or after 2,000RMB has been spent on train tickets. Credits
are then redeemable at a rate of 100 credits to 1RMB and cannot be used
to partially discount tickets.
With eight people on one
membership, and each person spending 1,000RMB every week for round-trip
tickets between Beijing and Shanghai, this program will begin to repay
frequent riders' travel budgets at a rate that seems easily worthwhile.
