The film, based on a short story by Liu Cixin, is the world’s highest-grossing film of 2019 so far

After raking in 600 million USD since its release over Chinese New Year, The Wandering Earth is the world’s highest-grossing film of 2019 so far. Apparently wanting to get in on the action, Netflix announced last Thursday that it had acquired the rights to stream the film, though it didn’t specify the release date.

According to Netflix, the film will be translated into 28 languages and will be available in more than 190 countries where Netflix is available (which currently doesn’t include Mainland China).

Based on Hugo Award-winner Liu Cixin’s short story and starring Wujing – who directed and acted in China’s highest-grossing film, Wolf Warrior 2The Wandering Earth is a classic tale of saving humanity. Set in a distant future in which the sun is expanding, a group of heroes build engines in the hope of launching Earth out of the solar system.

According to Sina, China Film Group Corporation has extended the film's run until May 5, two months longer than the original schedule. So in other words, it seems like you can leave the solar system if you want but you won’t be escaping this film anytime soon.
