Proof of a negative 48-hour PCR test is no longer required for Beijing’s public transportation from Monday Dec 5, according to a statement released this evening by the authorities.
The announcement came after a series of revised covid protocols in the capital, including relaxed mandatory daily testing, lockdown enforcement and even the introduction of home quarantine for some Beijing communities, according to reports by local media.
Perhaps an indication of a policy shift to ease up restrictions and prepare for a faster return to normalcy – as recently seen in several cities including Guangzhou and Chongqing, it's worth noting the requirement of a negative 48-hour test, however, still applies to entering most public venues in Beijing at present.
With more testing sites being taken off the streets and now seemingly moved into residential compounds and operating in different opening times, we recommend you doublecheck the updated schedule beforehand, bundle up, and get in line early.
