Mainland China to fully resume travel with Hong Kong and Macao

On February 3, government officials announced that mainland China is to open border with Hong Kong and scrap all covid restrictions by Sunday, February 6. This includes removing mandatory PCR tests, as well as daily quota restrictions and booking requirements for those travelling between the two destinations.

The new rule came after travel restrictions were lifted between the mainland and Macao earlier in January, including the dropping of testing requirements for visitors.

Travellers who have been outside of China seven days before crossing the border will still be required to conduct PCR tests 48 hours before arrival into Hong Kong and Macao; children aged three or under are exempt. 

Needless to say, a trip to these destinations is soon to get a whole lot easier. Need more incentive to plan a weekend getaway? The Hong Kong government is actively working to bring in more visitors and boost tourism and consumption. A campaign is in the works which includes a giveaway of 500,000 free airline tickets to travellers from all around the globe.

Reportedly 500,000 airline tickets will be distributed by Hong Kong Express, Cathay Pacific, and Hong Kong Airlines by March 1. Over the course of six months, each airline will be using their overseas platforms to gradually distribute the free tickets, starting with Southeast Asian countries, followed by the mainland and Northeastern Asia.
