First Bite: Palmetto Brings Forward Southern Cuisine
Shanghai’s F&B world is fast-paced and constantly growing, and Palmetto is its latest addition. Being honest, after replacing Ruijin Caijun’s location, Palmetto had to prove a lot to win our heart - and they’ve done it. Palmetto, Shanghai WOW! has a crush on your cuisine, and here’s why…
THE CONCEPT
Palmetto is located near Changde Lu. The space has a U-shaped layout and has huge casements to bring ample light. The venue has an inviting terrace, which will soak up the sunshine. Great news for those who live in the Jing An area! We already plan to spend our lazy afternoons on the patio with a drink at hand.
Palmetto’s menu is rooted in ‘Low Country” cuisine of coastal Georgia and South Carolina. Expect Southern hospitality and generous portions of Fried Chicken, Country Fried Steak and traditional sides such as Macaroni and Cheese, Corn bread sticks with Sorghum butter, Slow cooked greens and lots of gravy.
THE FOOD
Bring your friend over, sit down, make yourself comfortable and relax. Take a long breather to countenance that daily stress… and order your favorite beer with a few boiled peanuts. Now you are ready to take in the menu.
Snacks
Deviled Eggs RMB18
Easy go-to appetizer and a crowd-favorite, Deviled eggs is a classic in the U.S, although difficult to find in Shanghai. Egg whites filled with an egg yolk mixture of mayonnaise, pepper and hot sauce. We all love it and it’s only RMB18.
Corn bread with Sorghum butter RMB18
Sweet seductive butter with a warbling, smoky scent you’ll want to taste on everything. Paired with fresh corn bread, this is a comforting and simple appetizer. For this price, you can easily imagine eating it every day.
Pimento Cheese RMB 48
Affectionately known as "the caviar of the South”, Pimento cream cheese is made of… well a lot, actually: cheddar, olives, red pepper… to toast on crackers or vegetables. A multitude of taste mashed inside one spoon. If you don’t know it then you should try it. For European readers: it tastes similar to Apericube!
Mains
Southern fried chicken RMB68
Tendered chicken Marinated with spices and buttermilk, before being rolled in flour, paired with a delicious buttery biscuit and coleslaw. Comforting food, we’ve all got a fried chicken addiction, and this a perfect way to indulge it. Served with different sauces: BBQ, gravy and Alabama white or house made hot sauces..
Country Fried steak RMB98
This dish is addictive… It combines the pleasure of beef meat with the irresistible fried add-ons. It matches as well as you could imagine. Once you try, you won’t forget it. Easy to share, a must have.
Pork Rib, RMB98
Slow cooked and smoked. it is a simple comfort food served with BBQ sauce, pickles, coleslaw and a biscuit.
Sides
