Shanghai's Smallest Coffee Shops!

2017-05-13 ShanghaiWOWeng

“Wait, I just need to grab a coffee!” If we had 10 RMB for every time we said that, we’d be crazy rich by now… Our busy lives don’t often allow us to sit down in a cafe and enjoy our coffee, which is why these little coffee shops (so little in fact that you can’t physically sit in them) are perfect for caffeine lovers on the go. We’ve found the best takeaway coffee spots to help you get through the day, none of which are bigger than 10m2!

MANNER COFFEE

2-3㎡

Manner Coffee is probably Shanghai’s most well-known coffee shop. The first shop is on Yuyuan Dong Lu and is just a tiny building with a little coffee table in the centre. Its popularity led to the Fengxian Lu branch opening up recently, which happens to be right next door to a wontop shop. You can get everything you need for a quick, energizing breakfast in one short trip!

Where: 1/F, Bldg 3, 20 Yuyuan Dong Lu, near Tongren Lu, Jing’an district | 310 Fengxian Lu, near Shanxi Bei Lu, Jing’an distict

FORTY TWO COFFEE BREWERS

5㎡

What’s unique about this place is the cups: a giant pair of lips are printed on them! As you can imagine, tons of people come here just to take pictures of the cutesy cups, but that’s certainly not the only reason people come - the coffee is some of the best quality you can get in Shanghai!

BUG COFFEE

5㎡

Don’t be put off by the name - we can assure you there are no bugs here! The owner actually called it Bug Coffee because he said he got the ‘bug’ to innovate the coffee industry. And he did just that with bright neon lights illuminating the entrance, not to mention the great coffee. If that’s not enough, they also have a gorgeous little dog named Oreo!

CAFE BEGONIA

8-9㎡

Cafe Begonia has 10 indoor seats, so you actually do have the option to sit down here if you want. The decor is all white with green plants accenting the space, plus many of the drinks and desserts are green, which provides a really cool contrast with the surroundings. Definitely one for photos if you’re into that sort of thing.

DANKE CAFE

10㎡

Danke Cafe is going for an edgy theme with their coffee. No, there are no actual eggs in the coffee, but they froth the milk in such a way it gives the illusion of egg whites. They do offer egg yolk crisps if you fancy some real egg to go with your coffee!
