10 Ways Shanghai Does it Better Than Hong Kong
Were there days you wish you were not living in Shanghai? Of course! Maybe you have your eyes set on Hong Kong? But let’s face it…Shanghai living is pretty good. Here are 10 ways Shanghai does it better than Hong Kong.
1. Tree-lined streets
Hong Kong may have nature walks and plenty of mountains and beaches, but you won’t find this many gorgeous tree-lined streets. In the autumn it is bursting with hues of yellow and hints of red. It certainly breaks the monotony of skyscrapers and rows of apartment high rises.
2. Four seasons
Hong Kong may be well known for shopping, but Shanghai has the change of seasons so you can always switch your wardrobe and look. Even the trees shed put on a beautiful display of colors from a golden yellow in autumn to a dainty pink during the peach blossom season in the spring.
3. Pajama people
Hong Kongers are too sophisticated to parade on the street in pajamas. Leave it to Shanghai and the wild mix or matching combination to brighten your morning.
4. Bigger Disneyland
Shanghai follows Hong Kong in getting a Disneyland, but the Disneyland in Shanghai is three-times bigger! So if you want more of the Magic Kingdom, Shanghai has it.
5. European architecture everywhere
Shanghai has a ton of exquisitely preserved European architecture. Although Hong Kong also has a few heritage houses, it is not as abundant as it is in Shanghai.
6. More Opportunities
Whether you want to open a creative shop or a design studio, there are always plenty of opportunities to succeed. After all, Shanghai is one of the gateways to Mainland China.
7. Inexpensive Rentals and Shares
Renting an apartment in Hong Kong can be a nightmare. The space per meter is triple what you will get for per meter in Shanghai. If you move to Hong Kong, be ready to live in a shoebox.
8. Trains and Railways
Hong Kong may be closer to a lot of international destinations for fancy quick getaways, but China has the adventure and pleasure of traveling around the country by rail.
9. No public disturbances
Shanghai is safe from public protests, so there is rarely a case of large-scale “Occupied” movements that can disrupt traffic
10. No Typhoon season
Although many of us working folk may want a typhoon day to get out of work, but unfortunately these monsters somehow miss the city (knock on wood) and end up in surrounding provinces. Wish we can say the same for Hong Kong.
