Techpapa collects news and publications about Software & hardware startups, VC, E-commerce, IT-companies and other. They often focus on all of these issues as they relate to China. If nothing else it’s a super interesting peek into all things tech.

豆腐丝

Summary:

If you can’t read Chinese characters don’t worry, the whole point of this account is to showcase incredible art and design. If you’re looking for some creative inspiration or just want to find some new artists you’ve never heard of, this account is total gold and has TONS of daily content.

Baopals

Wechat ID: baopals

Summary:

baopals is pretty amazing service that basically translates taobao into English, unlocking the magic that is Chinese internet shopping for us foreigners. Even better than that- they have regular Wechat posts highlights the most fun, helpful and downright weird things you get purchase.

The Bearded Bear

Wechat ID: TheBeardedBear胡子熊

Summary:

The Bearded Bear is run by a Shanghai-based beer enthusiast who graces readers with some seriously in-depth knowledge and insight into different aspects of Shanghai’s booming beer scene. One of the coolest things about the account is that it’s in English AND Chinese. It’s funny, informative and a must for any Shanghai beer lovers.  

DRiNK饮迷

Wechat ID: drinkmagazine

Summary:

Drink Magazine is “Asia’s leading bar magazine,” and has added a Wechat account to go along with their website and print mag. The account has a shockingly low viewership considering how interesting and consistent the content is. It’s a mix of Chinese and English, all focusing on alcohol. They get first looks at new bars, stay up to date on cocktail and beer trends, and offer tips on how to get buzzed, highly recommended!

TechNode动点科技

Wechat ID: TechNodeEN 

Summary:

TechNode is a China-focused tech news account that always has interesting content about apps, Chinese brands and big moves in taking place in the digital world. It’s an incredible resource for those interested in all china and technology.

ShamelessPlus

Wechat ID: shamelessplus

Summary:

Well we have to at least mention it. Their original account ‘Shameless’ was shut down after their content got a bit to risqué for censors, they’re follow up account is slightly more tame, but still smacks of gossipy china stories and articles. Not for everyone, but a ton of fun.

ChinaWire

Wechat ID: ChinaWire

Summary:

We hesitate to say it, but Chinawire is an essential account to follow if you’re an expat living in China. They’re a little bit clickbaity, but for the most part they cover some of the most interesting global stories as they relate to China. The comment section is a fiery free-for-all that is worth reading on a daily basis regardless of the actual article.

CNCREATE

Wechat ID: CHINAINSPIRE 

Summary:

CNCREATE is another art-focused account, but this one is based heavily on the China/Shanghai scene. It has great daily content and is an indispensible resource for finding out about exhibitions, creative workshops and events around Shanghai.

Basement6

Wechat ID: Basement6

Summary:

Roller disco parties, art exhibitions and music shows, if you’re tired of the standard bar parties and club nights, check out Basement6. It’s the official Wechat account of Shanghai’s digital art collective by the same name. Follow them to see what’s going on in the underground on any given weekend, it’s almost always weird and amazing.

SixthTone

Wechat ID: SixthTone

Summary:

News stories and voices from China that are actually interesting and relevant in today’s crowded media landscape. This Wechat account has articles somewhat similar in style to Vice, a must for any expat that follows current events.

MemeExpress

Wechat ID: MemeExpress

Summary:

They say memes are the poetry of our era and, we’re not sure if that’s true but memes are funny. MemeExpress is a Shanghai-based account with the sole purpose of making you laugh your ass off, with memes.
