5 Steps to live a Healthy Autumn
On the Chinese Lunar Calendar, autumn includes the 7th month, the 8th month and the 9th month. In 2017, autumn is from August 8th to November 6th.
Autumn is the season of harvest. The Yang gradually decreases while Yin will slowly increase. The temperature varies greatly between day and night. So people are easy to be attacked by cold and cough. In the meantime, the environment is relatively dry. But here is how to stay healthy during this unpredictable season if you follow these five steps.
Regulating Your Mind
As the seasons change, try to keep a tranquil mind and minimize exposure to the cold air. But, as the days are getting shorter try to keep a positive mental attitude. Restrain your expression and manner. All these are adapted to the containing and calm atmosphere of autumn.
Regulating Daily Life
Go to sleep earlier to adapt convergence of Yang. Get up earlier to expand the Qi in the lung. Keep your body temperature warm by drinking Ginger and Brown Sugar tea especially if it’s raining at the same time. And stay properly dressed, but don’t overheat yourself by wearing too much.
Regulating Diet
In autumn, it's dry and our lungs are easily dry as well from breathing the air. So we should eat foods that help to protect and moisten the lungs, promoting the production of saliva, and nourishing Yin. We should drink more plain water, light tea, soymilk, porridge, fresh fruit and vegetables.
Don't eat too much pungent, very sweet, oily or deep-fried food.
These foods are suitable to eat in autumn: pear, lilybulb (Baihe, 百合),Daikon radish, yam (Shan Yao, 山药),lotus root (ou, 藕)

It’s the best season to have physical training during the year. You’d better do some cold tolerance trainings such as morning exercise, running, climbing, Tai Qi Quan.
Mountain-climbing is suitable for autumn. It’s not only for exercising the body but also for helping us remain cheerful and adjust to the sights and sounds of the season.
Deep Breathing Fitness Method in Autumn
Here are some breathing exercises that will help regulate your body in the autumn.
First step-Creating saliva
Every morning, after washing, hunker quietly in a peaceful room, close your eyes.
The upper teeth peruse the lower teeth 36 times.
The tongue slides along the gum in the mouth until the mouth is full of saliva.
Gargle several times with the saliva, swallow in 3 times, imaging the saliva is sent to the abdomen (around area centered navel).
Second step- Deep breath
Insisting on this fitness method in autumn will protect your lung and assist your health.
Rest a while, deep breath 30 times.
When breathing in, the tongue licks the palate, breath in from the nose, imaging the breathed Qi is sent to the groin region.
When breathing out, breathe out slowly from the mouth,
speaking silently "Sai" but don't speak out.
