Shanghai's Most Amazing… Restrooms
Is it weird to highlight the best restrooms in Shanghai? Maybe, but you can’t deny you’ve used a random bathroom at some point during your time here. And some are actually so incredible they deserve to be highlighted. So, hey, here they are…
Bund 18: Hakkasan
The interior of Hakkasan is quite dark, so it’s a bit of a shock walking into such a bright bathroom. Just like the dining area though, this area will wow guests, with touches of fire-engine red, highlighting an elegant and sleek space.
Sir Elly’s @ Peninsula Hotel
Each of the restrooms at Sir Elly’s is quite large, with hints of gold décor and a modernized English feel.
Bund 22: El Willy
Center console washbasin outside the latrine, which makes this bathroom almost look straight out of a fairytale novel.
M on The Bund
Pink and girly with touches of gold and oriental décor. You can really feel the attention to detail, including mosaic floors which adds depth to the space.
People 7
This bathroom is unusually dark and mysterious. It’s a playful, one-of-a-kind experience, but hopefully you don’t really really have to go, because it might take you a minute to navigate your way around.
The Nest
Simple design, spacious and certainly classy (just like the restaurant itself). The Nest has a beautiful window view and large mirrors with a makeup stand, perfect for ladies to touch up before they head back out.
Cobra Lily
This restroom is unisex and the two varying colors are a bold contrast. Also be sure to check out the mirror has a ‘target.’
K11 B3
Ever heard of a themed restroom? Similar to a themed KTV room, this spot, which can be found in K11 B3, is a collaboration between K11 and WeCare 1C. Every stall has it's own distinct theme and ambiance.
Yi Ou Lai Mall
Yi Ou Lai Mall evidently put a lot of effort into their restrooms. Colourful walls, marble floors, and some seriously professional-grade lighting. These restrooms were so popular when they first opened that they organized a toilet party with photos and champagne (yes, we’re not making this up).
Parkson Mall
Each separate restroom here has its own theme. There's a general street art style everywhere you look, with graffiti, industrial vintage lettering, and mosaic patterns. It’s almost like visiting an art gallery or museum… one that you can go to the bathroom in.
Xingye Taiguhui
It’s all about the greenery when you visit the restrooms at Xingye Taiguhui. It's like a gorgeous bathroom somewhere in the middle of a forest.
Metro City
The restrooms here adopt a sleek Mediterranean style, blues and whites and minimal décor might have you thinking you’re in Greece… using a restroom.
Golden Eagle Mall
Golden Eagle’s restroom uses a corporate, simplistic approach. It may sound boring but in practice it’s a pleasure to use such a clean and sleek space.
Xikang 189
The designers here used blocks of red to bring out the restroom’s quirky and modern style.
Hubindao
At Hubindao, children have the most fun in their restrooms! Playful mosiacs and bright colors make it look more like a playground than a bathroom.
VivoCity Shanghai
Bring out the kid in you at VivoCity Shanghai’s restroom. While there are no distinct cubicles, the designer uses separators to divide the different toilets.
Shanghai Joy City Building 2 Top Floor Restroom
Through the use of floor-length windows, the restroom on the top floor of Shanghai Joy City gets abundant natural lighting, making the space inviting and relaxing.
Takashimaya
Restrooms at Takashimaya are minimalistic and simple, while also making the most of modern technology. They even have motion sensor doors for the handicap toilet.
Hang Lung Mall
Hang Lung Mall restroom in another minimalistic and spacious design approach. The restroom also caters to parents with small children, and you can find a mini version of everything here for your little ones.
iapm Mall
A must-go every time you visit iapm, their spacious restrooms are brightly lit and even come with a separate resting and makeup area, perfect for those waiting for their friends to finish their business.
Raffles City Shanghai
Adopting an ergonomic approach, restrooms in Raffles City Shanghai cater to mothers with children. Not only are these toilet well-equipped, they have cute stickers for young children and toddlers.
Rui Hong Tian Di
Rui Hong Tian Di creates a separate toilet for children to settle their business. Each female toilet comes with a child-size cubicle, and each male toilet comes with a child-size bidet. Each toilet even has a basin just for the kids, allowing them to easily wash their hands.
Shanghai World Financial Center

This bathroom looks like it belongs on the international space station. The Shanghai World Financial Center restroom is a multi-purpose space that is equipped with smart facilities and caters to both new moms and physically disabled users. Each toilet comes with a baby seat, emergency alert system, baby board and more.
Yi Ou Lai VIP Restroom
Not known to many, Yi Ou Lai has a private VIP restroom that comes with a living room, art room, book café, bar, changing room and of course, world-class services. Despite being a small space, the luxurious toilet compensates with its classy design and range of Jo Malone products available for use.
K11
Another K11 restroom has made it on to our list! This beautiful restroom is furnished with child-friendly facilities, making the toilets safe for children to use.
Wuxian Ji Hui
Apart from its beautiful aesthetics, the toilets at Wuxian Ji Hui smell heavenly, and some might say they smell better than the mall itself. The men’s toilets have a corporate and professional design, giving users a comfortable and quality restroom experience.
FYI we didn’t come up with this list out of the blue. For a restroom to make the list it had to meet the following requirements:
Must be servicing restaurants or bars
Cannot be hotel lobby bathrooms
Bathrooms must have some highlight or unique feature
Must be accessible to those everyone dining or drinking at the venue (aka no private bathrooms)
