Open During CNY: Where to Eat & Drink

So you are stuck here for Chinese New Year? That’s not so bad, we hear the weather is supposed to be nice and you can plan some fun meals out with the other stragglers. The only problem is that some of your favorite bars and restaurants are also on holiday. In order to prevent you from big time disappointment here is a list of places that told us they are definitely open sometime between February 15th and the 22nd.

Asian

Cobra Lily is open every day although they close at 6pm on 2/15 and will have reduced hours from 2/16-2/18 from noon to 10pm. They resume normal operating hours from 2/19. Cyclo is open until the 18th with reduced hours from 5pm-11pm, closed from 19th-21st and reopen with regular hours on the 22nd.

Bakeries & Cafes

Not only is Bread ETC (both locations) open during CNY from 7am-10pm from February 16th-18th, they are doing brunch everyday and giving 50% off their dinner menu to celebrate the New Year. This deal lasts for ALL of February. After a brief break, Sober Café opens from February 20th with special lunch and dinner menu on 21st and 22nd. Hours are from 10am-1am. PÂTE Patisserie resumes regular hours from 10am-9pm on the 17th and brunch will be available. They have one more surprise up their sleeves at PÂTE with nightly buy-one-get-one wine from 6pm-9pm. Coffee Lab will have reduced hours (11am-7pm) from February 12th to the 21st with some days off from the 15th to the 18th.

Wine & Cocktail Bars

Above the Globe is open from 7pm to 2am February 15th to 21st, Second Moment is open from 7pm to 2am every day except February 15th, and The Tailor Bar closes for a few days and reopens for normal hours from the 18th of February. Both Sober Society and Speak Low close until the 20th of February. Sober Society will open on February 20th from 7pm-2am and Speak Low’s second floor opens on February 20th. The third floor will reopen after the 22nd. Barules will be closed from February 14th to the 18th, resuming regular hours on the 19th.

XO Bar is open every day.

Diners

Newly opened Al’s Place is open daily, 10am-10pm while the working hours for both locations of Al’s Diner are reduced. The Xiangyang Lu branch is closed from Feb 15th-20th and resumes regular business from the 21st. Xinle Lu is closed Feb 15-19, opening one day earlier on the 20th. Diner is off from February 14th to 19th with limited hours for the whole month (when they are open) from 10am-5pm.

Brew Houses

Beer lovers will be happy to know that both the Hop Project and Little Creatures are open from 4:30pm to late every day.

Boxing Cat (Yongfu Lu), Liquid Laundry, Lil Laundry and 45 Degrees are closed from February 15th to 18th while Boxing Cat (Sinan Lu) will only close on February 15th. They also open early on the 16th-18th from 11am. Liquid Laundry will be serving brunch everyday from the 19th to the 25th and all restaurants resume normal operating hours from February 19th.

Kaiba locations at SOHO and Joy City are open during Chinese New Year.

Chinese

The Exquisite Bocuse location at 1937 Hongqiao Lu is open as well as the original Jesse Restaurant on Tianping Lu. Fu 1039 is also open if you need something upscale. Most mall restaurants will be open including Oriental House in the Jing’an Kerry as well as Xing Rong Ji in Henderson 688 Plaza. A few branches of Jade Garden are open including: Kerry Jing’an, Grand Gateway and Taikoo Hui.

Sandwich Shops/Deli

Madison Kitchen on Donghu Lu is off from February 15th-19th and back on the 20th while the Bingo Mall location is back on the 19th. After a four day break, Spread the Bagel will be open on the 19th to the 21st from 8am-6pm with regular hours resuming on the 22nd. Alimentari will have reduced hours (11am-7pm) from February 12th to the 21st with some days off from the 15th to the 17th.

Fine Dining

Both Galleria and Mr & Mrs Bund are open.

Healthy

Sproutworks’ Xintiandi location is open from 10am-5pm on February 15th and 10am -9pm from February 16th-21st. Their Taixing location is open on Febraury 15th from 10am-5pm before closing from the 16th – 20th. Their hours on February 21st will be 10am-5pm. The Guomao location is opening from 11am-5pm on February 15th, 11am-6pm from February 16th-21st and 10am-6pm on February 18th. ban ban in iAPM is open from 10am-6pm on February 15th and from 10am-9pm from February 16th-21st.

Chin Chin will be open from the 15th to the 17th with reduced hours. From 4pm to late they will have the beer stock market and kebabs with regular hours resuming on the 18th.

If you are looking for vegetarian food, Pure & Whole at the Portman reopens from 5pm-9:30pm (for dinner service) on February 20th. The Pudong Kerry Parkside is open on February 15th from 11am-2pm, February 16th and 17th from 11am-6pm before resuming regular opening hours on February 18th.

Italian

D.O.C.  is open from 11am to late with brunch available daily. Gemma will have reduced (4pm-midnight) hours from the 18th to the 22nd. Bar Centrale will be closed from February 15th-17th before resuming regular hours.

Mexican

El Luchador is open from noon to late every day and El Santo is open from 4:30pm to late every day. Pistolera on Hengshan Lu is open regular hours and Jinqiao opens from February 19th.

Pizza

Homeslice in Found 158 is open from 11am-11pm every day as is Joe’s Pizza on Wujiang Lu.

Steak & Seafood

Bull & Claw is open from 11am to late with daily brunch. Hooked opens at 4:30pm most days except weekends when they open at 11am for brunch. Little Catch is open during Chinese New Year with adjusted hours: Feb 15th, 10am-6pm and Feb 16th-18th, 11am-8pm. They resume regular hours on February 19th.

Shanghai Slims is open from February 16th-23rd from 12-8pm. Morton’s Grille will shorten their hours from noon to 8pm from February 15th-18th with regular hours back on the 19th. Morton’s the Steakhouse and Morton’s Steak & Seafood Grill as well as The Butcher’s Club will be open as usual.

Sports Bars, Dives & Pubs

Big Bamboo, Blind Pig and Rooster are open as usual. Cages closes from February 15th to 18th, back to regular business hours on the 19th. The Camel is open from 4:30pm (earlier from 11am on the weekend). Specter’s is open on the 15th and the 20th from 7pm to 5am, but they are closed on all the days in between.
