F&B News Bites

2018-02-24 ShanghaiWOWeng

Welcome to the Year of the Dog! While there has been a temporary break in the action due to the Chinese New Year holiday, we still have some things to report. Jot down the big openings and get ready for some changes.

Fans of Austin Hu’s Madison Kitchen rejoice, because he has just launched a new branch in Bingo Plaza (also home to our favorite hot pot restaurant, Holy Cow) on the 2F of City Shop. We hear they have a wood burning oven so expect additions the the already excellent menu to include pan pizza, lasagna and chicken (for teriyaki bowls).

This one hurts, but Elefante has ended its longstanding tenure on Donghu Lu as of February 14th. The premises will be taken over by the Fulu Group (Oyama, Anthologia, etc.) with no further involvement from the El Willy Fun F&B group

The good news is Chef Carlos Sotomayor will be staying on for the launch of Fulu’s new project called Ekeko. It will be a chef driven omakase menu with the first iteration inspired by Peruvian and Nikkei cuisine. As Vinoteca Torres is also moving out, there is room for one more restaurant, so Kenji Ishibashi will reopen Racines under the Fulu umbrella.

The photos for Light & Salt’s new venture, The Pine at Ruijin, are stunning. As with their other ventures, interior and exterior spaces are breathtaking and we can’t wait to head in and sample the food. We've been told to expect contemporary Asian cuisine along with tea pairings once things get settled.

One of F&B’s busiest women has been quietly turning both parts of Fat Mama into two separate venues: Bird (wine+kitchen) and Bitter (coffee+cocktails). They are currently doing some pre-opening tastings at Bird ahead of a highly-anticipated opening.

Wheat | Healthy Eatery has transitioned from brick and mortar to delivery. Get all your favorite healthy meals by going to their website: www.my-wheat.com or WeChat: WheatCo.

Funkadeli recently took over the Wuding Lu location of Sailors and is turning it into a South American restaurant. Watch for that to open around the beginning of April.

Finally, STYX, has opened up a kiosk in the Reel Mall basement next to Dodu
