Store Closures in Shanghai This Year

The first half of 2022 is coming to an end. In half a year, many businesses have closed. Based on our latest research, we have compiled a list of stores that closed in the first half of 2022.




IKEA (Yangpu)


Official announcement

A few days ago, IKEA’s official WeChat account announced that the IKEA in Yangpu, which has only been open for two years, is planning to close in early July.

From June 13th to July 6th, IKEA (Yangpu) is currently doing promotions and discounts on more than 300 items, up to 50% off.

Prēe (XINTIANDI)



XINTIANDI’s Prēe has become one of the most popular ice cream shops in Shanghai since it opened in 2015. Currently, Dianping (Chinese version of Yelp) shows the store is closed, and the physical store is boarded up.

The Room



The Room is a café with a terrace on Tai'an Road.



It has been in operation for the past 11 years; however, it recently announced its closure at the end of this month just a few days ago.

Have Something



Have Something, a Japanese style coffee shop on Hengshan Road, announced its closure in mid-June.

ZZCETISTAR BOOKSTORE



ZZCETISTAR BOOKSTORE is an independent bookstore specializing in illustrations. On June 2nd, the bookstore announced that it would officially close on July 1.



Following the closure of its physical store, the bookstore will continue operations online at its Taobao store, and fans can look forward to collaborations, owned collections, and more.

Le Salon de Joël Robuchon



Le Salon de Joël Robuchon started its operations in Réel in May 2018.



However, due to lease expiration, the restaurant officially closed on June 3rd.

Cuiqu



Cuiqu, a specialty coffee brand from Taiwan, was once a smash hit in Shanghai.



It's a pity that on May 27th, the official WeChat account announced that it would cease operations in Shanghai.

2nd Floor, Jingpin Shoppin




BADMARKET


BADMARKET on Anfu Road is a fashion store.



Although the official account said that the store would be temporarily closed from March 17th, the store is now empty.

Cheng Yu Ping



Cheng Yu Ping is a reservation-only Sichuan restaurant.

Chef Cheng is known in the Shanghai food scene for traditional Sichuan dishes, such as Mapo Tofu. Sadly, the restaurant is now officially closed.

Little Berry



Little Berry, a fairytale-style dessert house located on South Chongqing Road, has announced that it will close its store soon.

GROM



In 2019, the popular gelato brand, GROM, opened in Shanghai.



Surprisingly, the store announced in March this year that it would end its business on March 31, 2022, and sadly cease operations in Shanghai after three years of opening.

M on the Bund



Since its debut at No.5 the Bund in 1999, M on the Bund has attracted countless people. Unfortunately, the restaurant announced its closure for various reasons and ceased operations on February 15th this year.



Their iconic terrace with 270° riverside views, classic continental menu, and great service are things we will never forget.

Ars & Delecto



Ars & Delecto delights customers with its innovative and delicate Japanese blends. But we found out recently that the bar has closed down quietly.

Gudao Bookstore



Gudao Bookstore, the first detective novel store in Shanghai, had only opened for two years. Sadly, it ceased operations on March 12th.



In its closing announcement, the owner noted, "Although the bookstore is famous, the book sales were not great as it is hard to sell books nowadays."

Shanghai Fuchun Xiaolong



Shanghai Fuchun Xiaolong, open on Yuyuan Road for 26 years, had long become a legend amongst locals.



The store officially closed on January 4th this year, aligning with local renovation plans.

GREEN & SAFE



GREEN & SAFE is an icon for green and healthy restaurants in Shanghai, and it started on Dongping Road.



Due to lease expiration, the Dongping Road store officially closed in February this year.

Abercrombie & Fitch

In 2014, the first Abercrombie & Fitch in Shanghai opened in Jing’an Kerry Center. Due to lease expiration, the store closed in February this year and will move to HKRI Taikoo Hui.

Lionterest



Lionterest, which provides afternoon tea and homestays, occupies a three-story house on Middle Wulumuqi Road.



Unfortunately, Lionterest closed in January this year. The store owner is now working as a tarot reader and is planning to open a store in another city next year.

Radio Lane Hot Pot



Radio Lane Hot Pot in People's Square had set a record of 2,000 tables at the peak of its operations, with people queuing for up to two hours to dine at the restaurant.



Today, its People’s Square store has ceased operations; however, its Huaihai Road store remains open.
