New Railway Station in Pudong is on the Way

Shanghai is embarking on an ambitious project to establish its new transportation landmark – Shanghai East Railway Station!

According to the recently released REPORT ON THE WORK OF THE GOVERNMENT, the Shanghai East Railway Station is finally set to begin construction in March.

The core construction area covers 2.2 km², with a total building area of about 3 million m². The project combines residential buildings, leisure areas, entertainments, and a large-scale CBD in one location.

New Transportation Landmark

The construction of Shanghai East Railway Station is estimated to require an astonishing investment of RMB 150 billion.

Comprising 14 platforms and 30 lines, it is second only to Hongqiao Railway Station in terms of size.

Furthermore, Shanghai East Railway Station will team up with Pudong International Airport to establish a world-class transportation hub.

Two Hubs Cooperating Together

With the combination of "airport + high-speed railway station", the "East Hub" will be the future version of Shanghai's "Hongqiao Hub".

Unlike the "Hongqiao Hub", which primarily serves domestic passengers, the "East Hub" will mainly focus on international lines, integrating six transportation modes. It is estimated that the daily passenger flow after the completion could reach 1.2 million people.

In the future, with the cooperation of the "Hongqiao Hub" and the "East Hub", the transportation in Shanghai will be taken to the next level.
