Middle Eastern eats at new Wulumuqi Lu Lebanese spot Eli Falafel
The summer heat may have broken, but that little strip between Wuyuan and Fuxing Lus doesn't seem to cool down: there's Diner, Little Catch, Brothers Kebab, Mr Banh Mi, Bonus, The Avocado Lady and many more... and now you can add Lebanese eats to that list courtesy of Eli Falafel.
On the menu, find all the stuff you know and love from Middle Eastern cuisine: doner kebab wraps and pitas (38-45RMB), kebab platters (68-108RMB), stuffed vine leaves (48RMB), tabouleh salad (58RMB), and a range of dips like hummus, baba ghanoush and muhammara (red pepper) for 40-48RMB. Then there's the falafel, unlike your typically dry and crumbly falafel, Eli's fried chickpea batter patties are crispy on the outside, moist on the inside and generously seasoned (albeit slightly overpriced at 45RMB for five pieces).
The space is small, with just a couple of tables and some counter space along the front window. That said, this joint is prepped for take out – the fridge is stocked full of salads, dips, and other bites that are ready to go. All-in-all, even with the slight steep price tags, it's no risk to say that Eli's is going to be serving up some stiff competition for Brothers Kebab across the street.
