Passport checks conducted during police raid at Celia

2017-10-04 Adam Hopkins TimeOutShanghai

Club-goers, listen up: start carrying your passport with you on nights out. Following a police raid at Xingfu Lu bar Celia in the early hours of Sunday morning, several people were detained for being unable to provide identification.

According to a statement from Celia management:

'The police were merely checking ID and they were only concerned with those who couldn't provide their passport or a copy. There were only 20 [people who couldn't provide ID], who were taken to the police station and only there urine tested. Only 10 of these tested positive for previous drug use and have been detained.'

This isn't the first bar to be raided in recent weeks, with the likes of M1NT and C's reported to have also had police turn up of late. Our advice? Carry your ID or passport with you or, at the very least, have a picture of your photo and visa pages on your phone.
