Co-founded by the Chinese government and the European Union on November 8, 1994, CEIBS has grown into a world-renowned business school and a recognised role model for effective co-operation between China and the EU. For over a quarter of a century, CEIBS has evolved from introducing and interpreting classic management theory from the west, to shaping and sharing Chinese management expertise in an era of globalisation.

1994

Inauguration of the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai; Delivery of the first executive education programmes on the Chinese mainland

1995

Opening of first full-time MBA and EMBA classes

1996

Chinese mainland's first endowed chair received, heralding a new model for academic research

1997

Ground breaking for the main campus in Pudong, Shanghai

1998

First representative office established in Beijing, signalling CEIBS’ focus on the wider China market

1999

Inauguration of the Shanghai main campus designed by PCF & Partners Architects LLP

2000

The Chinese government and the European Union signed the CEIBS Phase II Financing Agreement

2001

EMBA programme ranked 29th by the Financial Times, the first EMBA programme on the Chinese mainland to be ranked among the world’s top 50

2002

MBA degree officially recognised by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council

2003

China's first EU Policy Paper explicitly states that "more work should be done with CEIBS to develop more top business professionals"

2004

CEIBS became the first business school on the Chinese mainland to be awarded EQUIS accreditation

2005

Opening of the first EMBA class in Shenzhen, providing business management education to China's Southern region

2006

CEIBS partnered with HBS and IESE to launch the first Global CEO Programme in China

2007

CEIBS Lujiazui Institute of International Finance established, a highly-regarded think tank focused on Shanghai's role as a global financial hub

2008

The Europe-China Business Management Training (BMT) Project commenced, supporting economic development in Western China

2009

CEIBS received official accreditation from AACSB International, becoming the first business school on the Chinese mainland to receive both EQUIS and AACSB accreditations

2010

Inauguration held for Beijing campus, designed by the European company IDOM

2011

Part-time Finance MBA Programme launched, supporting Shanghai's development as the country's financial centre

2012

CEIBS Extension Agreement (2015 - 2034) signed

2013

Supported by the municipal government, CEIBS undertook building of the Shanghai MBA Case Development and Sharing Platform, promoting knowledge creation and dissemination

2014

CEIBS Shanghai Campus Expansion Project completed

2015

CEIBS Zurich Campus established, strengthening the school's global reach with five campuses across three continents

2016

Global Platform of China Cases (www.ChinaCases.Org) unveiled

2017

Economic Research Institute of Central and Eastern Europe (ERICEE) set up to push forward "Belt and Road Initiative"

2018

First Hospitality EMBA (HEMBA) class offered, creating a precedent in Asia for an EMBA Programme in service excellence

2019

MBA Programme ranked #5 globally by the UK's Financial Times, making CEIBS the only business school in Asia to have simultaneously made it to the Financial Times'  top 5 list of MBA and EMBA programmes
