Street fighting breaks out in Yemeni port of Aden

Intense fighting has broken out in the Yemeni city of Aden, between forces loyal to the government and those allied with the Southern Transitional Council.

The fighting erupted after the government issued decisions to ban peaceful demonstrations organized by the STC, a separatist body that calls for an independent southern Yemen.

Witnesses on the scene say that the "army bases of the government were seized by the STC soldiers following hours of clashes."

An unknown number of soldiers were killed in the ongoing street battles.

Yemen's Prime Minister has called for an end of the fighting.

On Saturday, the interior ministry threatened to use force against any protests that call for dissolving the internationally recognized government.

The southern port city of Aden is considered as Yemen's temporary capital.

Yemen's government, backed by Saudi Arabia, has been battling Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels for control of the country for the past three years.

Israel and Poland to hold PM talks over Polish Holocaust bill

The prime ministers of Israel and Poland say they will start bilateral talks over the wording of a Polish bill that bans mentions of Polish complicity in crimes committed during the Holocaust.

The planned talks come amid a growing diplomatic crisis between the two countries, after the lower house of the Polish parliament voted in favor of the controversial bill, sparking outrage in Israel.

The new legislation proposes to jail a person who blames Poland for Nazi crimes against humanity, which were committed in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II.

The bill also prohibits phrases such as "Polish death camps."

Israeli leaders and Holocaust survivors have condemned the bill.

They say it attempts to rewrite history and conceal Polish complicity with the Nazis during the war.

Israel has also reprimanded the Polish deputy ambassador over the bill.

About 6 million Jews were killed by the Nazis in World War II, many of them at Auschwitz and other death camps in Poland.
