White House top economic adviser resigns

U.S. President Donald Trump's chief economic advisor Gary Cohn has resigned.

The development comes after Cohn previously summoned executives from U.S. companies that depend on aluminum and steel to meet with Trump on Thursday, to persuade the presidentto drop his tariff plan.

Reports say Cohn had been mounting a last-ditch attempt to head off Trump's new tariffs plan on steel and aluminum.

Trump announced last Thursday that the United States planned to impose a 25-percent tariff on steel imports and a 10-percent one for aluminum, as these imports threaten U.S. national security.

Trump's tariffs plan sparked criticism from the Congress.

Chinese scientists find facilitator in Zika transmission

Chinese scientists have found the facilitator of the Zika transmission.

They found that a protein, obtained from the salivary glands of the yellow fever mosquito, facilitates the transmission of the Zika virus.

(这里有一句留给大家来填空,记得听完留言写下你的答案哦!)

Reseachers say the protein modulates the host immune responses to a mosquito bite, providing chances for Zika virus to spread.

Identified in the 1940s in Africa, Zika is primarily spread by the bite of an infected mosquito.

It can be passed from a pregnant woman to her fetus, leading to defects in infants.

Since 2015, the Zika virus has swept through more than 60 countries.

There is currently no vaccine or treatment for Zika.
