A gem is defined as something to be admired for its beauty or excellence. Gems that are rare or difficult to find are called precious gems. Providence Cocktail Bar is like a precious gem of the "Food and Beverage" world and is located right here in Shenzhen, in the Futian district.

Just like a precious gem, you won’t likely find Providence Cocktail Bar unless you are actually looking for it. Lucky for you, your smartphone can lead you directly to it. The obscurity of Providence Cocktail Bar is intentional, in order to preserve the ambience and character. It is somewhat reminiscent of a speakeasy from 1920 USA, in its hidden nature.

Providence Cocktail Bar serves flawless libations in a comfortable environment, with a staff bound and determined to be the premiere cocktail bar in Shenzhen.

Providence Cocktail Bar is truly a labor of love. Owner Beck Salander envisioned and then created this space that is thoughtfully concentric with the art of the cocktail.

Providence Cocktail Bar was realized through a resurrection of the cocktail internationally (and the lack of a wholehearted cocktail lounge in Shenzhen,) coupled with Beck’s momentous quest to learn everything cocktail.

Beck comes from Providence, Rhode Island, thus the name Providence. The Providence Cocktail Bar logo also has a connotation to Providence through the “Eye of Providence” enclosed in a triangle (martini glass.) 

There is no more decadent feeling available in Shenzhen than reclining in one of the lounge chairs at Providence Cocktail Bar, with cocktail in hand. The atmosphere, the perfectly mixed cocktail and a high level of service all blend together for a complete experience.

A separate area of the lounge is connected, but barely noticeable and perfect for private functions or if you just want a quieter area to enjoy a delightful cocktail.

Setting what I would hope is a “new fashion trend” Beck has installed USB charging outlets throughout the lounge, the wifi works well and also includes VPN service. I know, many of the people who read this post use a VPN, but for me it was very nice to be able to access more of the internet than usual.

A minute after being seated, I already enjoyed water, lightly infused with cucumber. Combined with the upscale service and dedicated cocktail lounge atmosphere, the unique flavor of the water helped set the tone for a very enjoyable evening.

There are too many cocktails in the world (and new ones coming all the time) to keep them all on the menu. Many people have a favorite cocktail, which may not be on the menu, but it will still be mixed with enthusiastic expertise, from a vast collection of spirits from around the world.

Wanting to witness the skill of the cocktail artist first hand, I first ordered a Singapore Sling. Although many of the big hotels might make a Singapore Sling, many use a shortcut recipe of 3 ingredients. At Providence Cocktail Bar you will see the cocktail artist earn their money by going to great lengths to adhere to the true recipes.

To top it all off, Providence Cocktail Bar has an eclectic selection of snacks. Actually, the word snacks doesn’t seem to fit. Maybe more like delights. Great care and consideration is given to the selection of delights available. Not wanting to “follow the crowd” Beck prefers a high quality selection of unique hors d’oeurves.

If you just want to get to know Providence Cocktail Bar, I would suggest the Sunday Brunch. Held every Sunday from 11:00 to 4:00.

A precious gem in a sea of costume jewelry, Providence Cocktail Bar does not take shortcuts on their cocktails and have an ample selection of spirits to make that happen.

In addition to the Singapore Sling, I thoroughly enjoyed 5 additional fine cocktails, one recommended by the staff.
