NSIC | A Rare Chance to Learn Chinese Art - Paint Without Paint
Amazing Art
Can you imagine painting without paint?
On September 21st at NSIC
You are invited to NSIC to learn more about Chinese traditional culture, the Pokerwork, which is an old and magical way of painting.
It is also a unique way to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) .
Before signing up, let's see what "Pokerwork" is.
Pokerwork, also known as “Fire Needle Embroidery, Hot-stamping”, is the art treasure of traditional Chinese culture and the protection project of intangible cultural heritage of China. It originated in the Western Han Dynasty and flourished in the Eastern Han Dynasty, which has a history of more than 2000 years. Pokerwork uses a special iron pen instead of pigments to paint on wood and paper. It is operated under the principle of carbonization in proper temperature. While controlling the temperature and force, we also need to pay more attention to think before painting. Pokerwork, a highly collectable art, has a unique artistic charm. It is also praised as "A Unique in Art" and "the Living Fossil of Art".
At the very beginning, pokerworkers took needles as their tools and baked them on the oil lamp. Pokerworks were used as decorations on daily necessities like chopsticks, rulers, wooden combs. With the development of craftsmanship and tools, oil lamps were replaced by electricity, and the needles were replaced by electricity pens. Furthermore, some advanced electricity pens can change the temperature, which makes it the ancient technique more flexible.
Nowadays, pokerwork is so common and popular that people can see it almost everywhere in their daily life. These elegant designs can be found in chopsticks, toothpicks, beds and so on.
Next Saturday morning, we will invite the successor of intangible cultural heritage of China to teach you the miraculous pokerwork.
